My wife and I just returned from a months break to find our car had been left in a paying area of the city. We live downtown in a medium sized city in Korea and ordinarily we park and have no problems, however. it now transpires that certain areas are paying. As foreigners we had no way of knowing and my wife asked someone and they said it was okay to park. They charged her 320,000w which I believe is unfair given the circumstances and I like to know if anyone has had a similar experience or suggestions on how to make a complaint to the local City Hall and/or claim for a refund. |

You seriously think you deserve a refund? If a Japanese guy left his car in a parkade back home for a month and then claimed he shouldn't have to pay because he can't speak or read English, how would that go over? Pay the 320,000 and learn a lesson. |

Sorry to say it, but I agree. This happens to immigrants and visitors to the US and Canadia all the time. |

Next time use the "Orangemen" at the airport. A $50 (for a week) well spent. Drop your car off at the deptures and they bring your car right to you when you arrive back. It is worth it. As to your question, I am sure you are screwed and will have to pay. |

Hey, now. All Spliff was implying is that he understands the OP's pain and feels for him. A 320,000 parking fee sure hurts!

I parked my car in Sh*taewon once and will never do it again.
Was sent a ticket two months later saying I had to pay a fine of 50,000 won because the car was parked past midnight. Fair enough, I paid the ticket, whatever, don't do it again, all good, all finished? No.
I am sent another ticket again, a month later, saying that the man who wrote the ticket FORGOT to add another item when he originally wrote it, therefore increasing the total of the parking ticket to 70,000.
Okay, 20,000 won, not THAT big of a deal, but it's the inefficiency that matters. Every last bit of it.
I paid the ticket, AGAIN, and now I just don't drive unless I have to, which is four times a week for work. Driving here, everything that comes with driving here, and people who drive here, taxi drivers especially, all add up to a big bowl of frustration that I choose to not deal with anymore. Don't drive unless you really have to. |

I got two tickets for driving in the bus lane back in 2002 when the paparazzi where sitting on the mountain as you come off the bus lane
and they snap you as you try to get into the lane before they get you.. so twice I got done.. anyway tickets came 80 bucks each.. forgot about them
5 years go by I get a letter in the mail the other day, saying
bring your car to the police station by feb 6 so we can put it up for auction!
now the only tickets I had were parking tickets from itaewon I usually park on the back hill by the swiss restaurant and had 3 tickets from there
got two tickets in one day! guess that parking cop was having a bad day
again I didnt bother to pay them.. so I thought thats what they were talking about..
went down to the cop shop and they said its for the paparazzi pics..
180.000 hahahhhaa
still havent paid those parking tickets! hahahaha |

Inefficiency in Korea? What? really?
I had a spat with my girlfriend from this just this weekend. she wanted some help with transcription of something, I freaking hate that stuff but I said I would do it this weekend... she wanted me to try to do it then and there... I told her that if I sleep now, it will be less stressful, take less time and be more accurate. She's Korean... her thinking was "balli balli balli" with no rationality behind it... it wasn't even required, and wouldn't be used until Tuesday anyway... |

I must admit, I would be happy if they started ticketing everyone. This country has the right laws on the books, it just needs to look them up and enforce them. |

No, I'm from Anchorage, Alaska by means of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lived in Brooklyn, New york for a couple years however. Big city driver here, not liking driving in Seoul. I'm so glad guns are illegal here. If they weren't illegal, there would be soooo many fatalities on the road. It would be ridiculous. |
