It may be too late. It you send your CRC application off tomorrow it should be back in 5 or 6 months. The RCMP are currently taking 120 days AFTER receipt of your application for processing times (then add in postal transit times).

If you can renew before March 15 (contract expires before May 15) you can avoid the requirement for your CRC prior to renewal and then you have time to get them without your visa expiring first.

After having spoken to the Ministry of Justice, and the Canadian Embassy, they both tell me that you DO NOT need the RCMP check. You can get a municipal check. You will need to send 2 pieces of scanned ID, plus an authorization letter stating that your mother/brother/friend can apply for the criminal check on your behalf. Then have it sent here, and you take it to the Canadian Embassy to have it notarized. A municipal check shouldn't take more than a couple weeks.

2) For criminal record check, RCMP or local police certificate will be acceptable. Once a police certificate is received, one has to bring it to the Canadian Embassy in Seoul or to the Honorary Consulate in Busan with a statutory declaration (The form can be obtained both at the Embassy and at the Consulate) to have it notarised. |

If you can do it through a municipal police force, it will be much faster than RCMP. I did that ....they accepted it (so far anyway). They will mail you a form, fill it out, send it back and they will mail it to you (or your school) |

check to see if your local pd has forms available online so you can simply print them out and save some mailing time. |

This is NOT true.
Get a family member to get the forms scanned and emailed to you. Print them. Fill them out. Express them back. Have the family member turn them in to a SMALL RCMP office, like in a small town. Have your family member suck up to the receptionist and explain the urgency.
Have the forms (criminal record check and sexual offense check) and expressed back. Make sure you tick # 1 on the 4 options of the crim rec check for 'basic check'.
THE SMALLER THE RCMP OFFICE THE BETTER.
And you can have them mailed to YOU and hand them in. That's what I did, at least.
But we aren't exactly living in a country of 'consistency'.
I had my check done in a day, and had the entire process completed in a week.
Months? Whatever. |

Yes, this is accurate. I've done it. Took a business week. The check itself took less than an hour. I had my mom shmooze the receptionist in a small, local RCMP branch. They have nothing better to do.
The constable will sign the form and there will be a phone number. Point at the phone number repeatedly when you hand it in and mention the constables name. It will be accepted and filed. |
