|
|
I am heading back "home" and have found it's much easier and cheaper to get my passport renewed there.
So, has anyone ever left Korea with a valid E-2 visa and come back with a new passport that, obviously, doesn't have the E-2 visa in it? What happened when you came back?
Does it make a huge problem? I'm hoping that if I bring my old passport with me and show it to them, that things will be alright.
Anyways, any stories or experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

When you renew a passport, the old expired passport will be returned to you. Generally they'll mark it VOID or USED or something like that. That doesn't affect the validity of the visas inside that passport, however. You'll just need to carry both (your new passport and the old one) until that visa expires. No problem, this happens all the time. |

I renewed my passport in the states...expedited it. It had all visas in it from different countries as well as an E-2 visa. I sent them both to the consulate in San Francisco and they had no problem and gave me the E-2 in the new passport. When I went to Immi in Mokdong, they just transferred everything into my new passport.
The old passport received back from Portsmouth, NH passport office had a stamp on the page where you sign your passport and had an X marked where it said new regular application, AND the passport had two holes punched in , one on each side of the passport cover of the old passport.
I got mine done five days before they implemented the new chip. Now the new passport under the words "United States of America" has a symbol...similar to a no-smoking symbol...a circle with a slash in it ..which is the chip.
Hope that answers some questions.
Also, the new passport regs say UNLESS it is emergency travel to your country..USA....a passport cannot be renewed through the Embassy for the country in at the present time..for example..South Korea.
The passport will be stamped with a validity date long enough for you to allow to return to the states and get a new passport. Bottom line, it will expire when getting to the states. The date is only good enough for the time to travel from point A to B and maybe a few days longer. However, the passport can be renewed prior to it expiring OR up to one year after expiry date of the passport. All renewal passports get sent to the Passport Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. |

You just need to carry the old one around with the new for a while. |

IF you have a re-entry permit or MULTI entry visa AND your ARC it is all in the computer system.
Show your ARC along with your new passport and your old passport with the visa if necessary and you should be fine.
