|
|
Bought a trumpet on ebay and now I have to figure out how to get it here. It's going to my uncle's first and then he is going to ship it here. What should I tell him in terms of the best way to ship it? It's coming from the U.S. |

I'd ship it in a box, but that's just me.
Pick a carrier, insure it and press "send." |

Does anybody know what a ten pound trumpet case will cost to send?
Dimensions are probably 30x18x8 (inches). |

My trumpet I just brought over with me in my luggage. Besides shipping and the worry of it not making it over here, you might also have some hefty duty, depending upon its value--a Bach Strad compared with a Conn Director (I have both, but left the former in the States).
Here is what shipping would be with USPS: http://ircalc.usps.gov/IntlMailServices.aspx?Country=10234&M=2&P=10&O=0&sd=1
Good luck. |

Fed Ex will certainly have that information. Here's the contact info. http://fedex.kinkos.com/locations/
Seriously, if you're looking to send it cheaply, then the regular post office is your best bet. They do offer insurance and the option of air or sea. Sea, obviously cheapest.
But, man...just make a few phone calls and you'll be able to tell us. |

Don't forget that you're going to pay import duty on whatever value it's declared (or insured) at PLUS shipping--yeah, shipping is taxable.
You'll likely pay a pretty hefty fee. |

Don't forget to poke holes in it so it can breathe! |

well, I'm not sure anymore, but it used to be 10% (three years ago maybe?)...they'll apply that to the declared/insured value and the shipping charge. If the declared/insured value is inaccurate, you can go prove it with the ebay auction page, though (I had to do that once, pain in the a ss). |

I can have the sender print the auction out and put it in the case. I seem to reacall it is still 10% on new items. first I've heard they get you on used as well.
