If a school is caught with an illegal teacher (not from the 7 nations, no degree, no visa, whatever) what can happen to the school? I know what happens to the teacher, but what about the school? Anyone know for sure? |

They are (should be) fined. Happened at a former school of mine near Ichon station. The school was fined 2.5 million per illegal teacher, but not before the immigration officials on site told my boss "Give us 4 million won today, and we'll go away." Yes, they were attempting to extort money from my boss. She was very angry about it. That was nearly 5 years ago, though. The teacher was also fined about 500,000 won and given an exit order. These days, I hear they are more strict. |

You have to remember the terminology here to get the correct answer to the OP's question:
Foreign teacher does something wrong => fine and/or detention/deportation.
Dishonest hagweon owner does something wrong => bribe. |

Fines these days can be upwards of 5 million and possible deportation. Depends entirely on which law was being broken.
If you're here legally on an E2 and working a second location (for the same school/owner), you'll probably get off with a small fine and told to stop working the second location.
If you're here legally on an E2 and you're caught working privates, you can probably get away with a larger fine and no deportation if you're good at begging and apologizing and kissing ass.
If you're not here legally (no working visa, on a visa with fake degree), you can expect a fine and plane ride home very soon. |

They either pay fines or bribes.
Immigration inspectors aren't exactly known for honesty. |

Weird thing is...no one ever comes on here and says what happened to them. It is always some story about a friend's, friend's, friend's mother's sister. It is never the person actually caught. I "hear" about the penalty for illegal working but never know for sure.
The bad things should happen...but I question how often they really catch someone and go all the way on them. I bet most people just go home. |

Yep they do since they get deported and fined...they have very little choice but to go home. So, your bet just cashed in..well played... |
