I have a Korean credit card that my uni job hooked me up with, but it has a small limit. It is BC card, the limit is only 1,000,000 won, and it is not international. I would like something else.
Some friends have recomended Samsung, but i have yet to find the link on the website to sign up. If anyone could give me some advice, I would appreciate it.
Also, if you have any other cards you could recomend, please let me know. |

Not for everyone. They flat out refused to give me one, unless I put money down.
OP - if you work at a public or university, samsung will give you one no problem. |

Yes, Samsung offers International CC for teachers who work for Universities and Public Schools. Don't think Hagwon Teachers can apply for this card.
It's a very easy process, all done on the phone. It takes about 5 to 7 days after the initial phone call to be processed and card to be delivered.
This is the telephone number of the girl at Samsung Credit Cards who handles English speakers application: 02-2000-8438.
You choose your limit - mine 2mil - the card can be use as a 'T'- Money card as well. You choose a date of each month you want your savings account debted to pay off your Credit Card. I chose the day after my pay day - pay off 100% of what I owe so as I don't pay any interest. |

Apparently last year, Korean Banks restricted foreigners acquiring atm credit cards. I got mine in 2006, before the new rules came in. |

Here is my explanation; I've been to all the banks and none of them will give me a credit card unless I put up a million or some Korean signs that they are liable for me. Plus can't get an ATM card where I can take out my money internationally. YES, true some people do have credit cards and ATM cards that work internationally, but the majority of us foreigners either can't get it...Plus, most of the people who have them are most like under different visas or in most cases the dumbass behind the counter at the bank didn't realize you couldn't get one and gave you one. Basically, because all foreigners are gay, aids infected, pedophile, with long rap sheets who will cheat anyone out of there of there precious won. This isn't a communist country, but China sure doesn't treat foreigners like this when it comes to there own money.
The point is it should be just a easy for us to get one as them! I have good credit and really wouldn't even want a K-credit card...but I would like an international debit card so I don't have to leave the country on vacation with 2000-5000 bucks on me...if I'm good enough to make the money and pay taxes, I should have as much right to access it!
PS THE WON IS PRETTY MUCH WORTHLESS ANYWAYS...SHITTY EXCHANGE RATES OUTSIDE THIS COUNTRY AND THAT IS IF PEOPLE WILL EVEN EXCEPT THE TOILETTE PAPER. |

I have an international MasterCard from Nonghyup Bank.
Recently, to pay for a vacation I wanted the USD limit (there're won & USD limits) raised. I went into my local branch and walked out 10 min. later with double the amount. |

I have a secured card from KEB. The funny thing is, I am not really upset about them wanting a security deposit on a credit card. There is a good reason for it, I have met many of the types of foreigner that have caused them to have the policy.
My beef is them refusing to issue int'l ATM cards to foreigners. I can see them wanting security for money they are LENDING, but I don't understand why we can't get our own money.
The unsecured credit cards for those that work for universities seems strange. I make a LOT more then most people at universities. But because I don't work at a university, I can't have one?
I also wish the would distinguish between Johnny Newbie who has been here for six months, vs someone who has been here almost 15 years. I think there should be different 'levels' of credit based on things like time in country.
I just got my F-2 as well. Do any other F-2 holders know if that will affect treatment by banks. Or am I still just a foreigner? |
