I counted 6 university jobs posted within the last 5 days. 8 in the last week. I don't remember ever seeing so many job posts at the last minute like this. Usually schools scramble in January, not February. I wonder if this is a result of the visa changes. Those schools are going to have a hard time finding qualified applicants in Korea in less than a month.

I interviewed for a University/College job in North East Seoul yesterday (February 4, 2008).

The basic deal is: 2.2 million won, 12-16 hours teaching per week, 4-5 months paid vacation per year, one year contract, 450,000 won for housing. Also teachers should work at least 4 days per week on the campus, and give 4 office hours per week. Teachers share a common office with desks and computers.

Most classes are composed of around 40 students, and you teach around 5 classes. The University is a vocational school, so many of the students lack motivation.

If I get offered the job, I will let you know, about further hiring at this place. Thank you.

Crap wages. Might not be too bad as you could knock out an MA while you did it, then move over to a better school with better employment conditions. Beats a hakwon at least.

Yeah. Waaaaaaaaaaaaayyy beats a hagwon. My first uni job was what made me think, "Hmmm. Maybe this country would be do-able after all, especially with a PhD..."

We wish you luck.

I teach 35 -36 middle school students often without a co-teacher or sometimes with a useless co-teacher. It's not that bad. However, it is much more pleasurable to teach with a good co-teacher.

Another 4 jobs went up today. That's 12 in just over a week. If anyone living in Korea, especially F2 holders, ever wanted to get a uni job, this is the time to give it a shot.

Totally!

It's shameful. Absolutely shameful what they're offering and requiring.

Check out the HUFS contract terms for the job they just advertised on Dave's today! Horrible conditions!
