I was wondering if a TV and DVD generally come in a furnished apartment.

Yeah I think tv is the norm. Both jobs I've had gave a tv, but one also gave a VCR. You can get multi-region DVD players for 60,000 won or so I think. I got one in Yongsan absolutely love it ~

Btw, are they decent TV's?

I was thinking of buying an HD tv before coming...or would it be worth it to buy one in korea instead?

In a cheapskate school, you'll be lucky to get a TV younger than dinosaurs. A nice school will provide a DVD player, or at least a VCR.

I work for a big school that is growing and the accomodations are mediocre at best.

My TV is old school and I have a VCR, no DVD.
No kitchen table.
No desk.
My fridge was 20 years old and leaked water. It died and, fortunately, was replaced.

My windows are large but face the inside of a courtyard and as such the blinds must be closed at all times otherwise people can look straight in while they have a cigarette in the openconcept hallways. After being here over 8 months I tell you I miss being able to have a fresh breeze blow in or being able to have light pour into my room, or even just being able to look out a window.

The point is: NEVER ASSUME YOU WILL HAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR ROOM. I've heard of people who were without a bed for a week. You are not an "invited guest" in Korea; you are a piece of a puzzle, easily replacable and no more respected than a homeless man asking for change at the subway station.

Remember the different REGIONAL CODES for Dvd players. US players play US Dvds not Korean ones. It's a pain in the butt and you might find your player to be useless here unless you plan on buying pirated DVDs that are REGION CODE free.

Planning on buying one and sending it here? I picked up a PDP flatscreen thingie tv but I figured sticking around 3 years I could put it to use, worse comes to worse I'll sell it on the cheap later.

They smoke. I don't. And god help me if they start *wonking* while smoking. Bad enough I have to listen to them hork and spit and hear it splatter on the awning that sits just below my apartment.

Why do Koreans think horking is acceptable? It's an awful sound to listen to, and I'm sick and tired of having to step around their spit. They spit in staircases, in elevators. Disgusting. No wonder they take their shoes off then they enter a house.
