Has anybody done a Masters in TESOL/TEFL?
I am thinking about it, the better jobs ask for a Masters.
I studied research methods at undergraduate level but I found it difficult e.g. formulating a hyopthesis, testing it, and writing a detailed report about it.
That was Psychology, but I really disliked the research methods.
I've just emailed a few Universities, asking them about course fees and the dreaded research methods content in their modules! |

Yeah, good attitude. But you should eventually develop a like (or practical interest) for research. Maybe you just need to find a problem or area in the literature that you're interested in. What are you interested in the field of TESOL / Applied Linguistics? Start from there. I tell ya, it'll also help you for when you start your M.A. thesis or projects knowing what area you're interested in.
Can't recommend a program...but you're on the track with the way you're thinking. |

Yep, it's a really good idea to do an MA. I'm currently midway through my MA TEFL at Lancaster University (the best provider after Oxford and Cambridge -we've got a lot of 'stars' -Leech, Bygate et al). My background is in law and this course was the first english course I did since by GCSE's. I did a year at a Hogwan before starting it. It's really interesting and you will find that you will want to do further research whilst on the course or after it. I was similar you in that I just wanted to get it done and dusted and have another pretty certificate on the wall (and better job prospects when I return in August). But you can't help but get sucked into all the theorizing and academic debate. I'm thinking about trying to write my first journal paper in the summer, if you told me i would be six months ago I would have laughed and laughed and laughed and.... |
