I need to get some suits made, and I've been doing some research and came across good recomendations for Mr. Hahns Tailors in Itaewon. On the other hand... some folks have had bad experiences in Itaewon and have recommended tailors in Dongdaemun-gu.

So please help me... if you can recommend a specific shop that you know of in Seoul please tell me about it. I can easily head down to Itaewon... but if I could find a tailor in Dongdaemun-gu that would be better as its closer to me.

Cheers!

I haven't gone to any Dongdaemun tailors, but I can vouch for Hahn's. They do good work and it's not accurate to lump them in with the rest of the Itaewon tailors.

Take a trip out to Songtan. You don't be disappointed. Especially with the prices.

Where exactly can one find Hahn's, and what can one expect he'll charge for a quality English or Italian wool?

Hahn's is at the end of Itaewon's main street, past McDonald's and near Suji's (so a little bit around the corner veering left).

He will typically ask 450k for domestic wool (quite good, btw) and surely a lot more for imported wool. The other shops on the street (and in Songtan, heh) offer "Zegna" at even lower prices, but it's not legit; it's Chinese.

Really? Seems expensive. I've been pulled into shops generally asking about 220,000 for wool that they let me examine and feel, which seemed quite nice compared to the 200,000 won Korean wool they also let me fondle. Can I expect that they have shoddy stitching or something? Are they worth the risk?

Make sure they don't use cardboard.

The $200 places don't really do bespoke, just made-to-measure (no matter what they tell you), and they all outsource to the same few sewing shops (sweatshops, basically). This has been reported many times, both here and on styleforum.net, and Hahn's has repeatedly been held up in contrast.

I've bought a $250 suit and several of Hahn's suits, and there is really no comparison. If you care about the stitching and the fit, that extra $200 is a small price to pay for what would cost over $1000 in the US or Europe.

If you don't care that much, then go for the el cheapo. Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes McDonald's is a good lunch option, after all, right? But don't confuse McDonald's with Ruth's Chris (or even the local mom & pop sik-dang).
