|
|
I accepted a job with GEPIK for the upcoming school year. However, I have still yet to receive my visa insurance number. So I'm stuck with either getting my plane ticket now for a cheaper price and having to worry about cancellations or date changes...or waiting until the last minute for a grossly overpriced ticket.
Although I have received my placement, nothing else has been told to me about the job. Is anyone else in this situation. Has anyone received their visa confirmation number for GEPIK or any other information regarding placement or orientation? |

First, let me say, GOD BLESS TEXAS.
In Korea, expect a constant "communication gap."
Are you sure you need a visa issuance number? I've been on more than one visa runs and I thought public school teachers only presented a copy of their contract. Maybe I'm wrong- (Often Wrong Soong). |

They are paying but I have to front the money, which is hard to do last minute. |

I have the contract they send in an email, but it isn't signed by the school. The Houston Consulate says I need the visa number (AND INTERVIEW) in order to get my e2.
I know everything is done last minute for Korea...but this is getting down to the wire! |

if you tell them you don't have the funds for the ticket they will buy it for you, don't worry.
next, most everything here is done last minute, or even afterwards. Ks don't plan ahead, don't look ahead, don't think ahead. get used to it if you want to succeed here -
just chill out, it's a holiday right now - things will pick up next week. |

I'm pretty much in the same situation as you! Probably even more last minute as I just sent out my application 2 days ago. But like you, I've also got a placement already. Since it's the holidays over there, my recuiter told me they're prob not gonna do anything until next week. Then it'll take another 4-5 days for the immigration to get u the visa issuance. So pretty much sit tight and wait is all we can do! |

GEPIK will NOT pay for your airline ticket ahead of time. You must get to Korea and then the GEPIK school will pay you for the airline ticket with your first month's pay. |

yeah right uh huh - they have so many teachers they can pick and choose!!
I've never seen a school refuse to fly a teacher over - and I can't imagine GEPIK or EPIK is any exception - if they are promising reimbursement - they'll foot the ticket - |

Moosehead- You are wrong and what I have posted is in the GEPIK contract. Stop promising newbies something you can't guarantee. Foolish posts only make things tougher for newbies |

It's true that GEPIK (probably) won't pay your ticket in advance, however if you are going through a recruiter then the recruiter probably will.
My recruiter paid for my ticket and claimed it back from the school after I arrived. The ticket was 5 million won (business class Edinburgh to London, economy class London to Seoul). I'm almost positive the recruiter was pulling some kind of scam on the school - 5 million!?!? |

drunkenfud, many recruiters try to cheat GEPIK out of money. Academy of English is a recruiter that cheats GEPIK and teachers on flight money. They actually charge fees and interest to fly teachers to Korea. It's disgusting. |
