My friend coined (I think she coined it) a funny name for those feathery sideburns boys are sporting these days "elfburns". I guess they either resemble sideburns elfs sport or reverse elf ears. One of her boys one day tucked his elfburns behind his ears and announced this now made him a girl. It occurs to me one of my own kids was doing that but I had no idea WTF he was talking about.

So watch for it.

They are certainly weird looking pseudo-sideburns!

Guys grow them because the large majority of them can't grow real sideburns.

That whole 75% testosterone thing- pity!

Kids love my lambchops.

THey sometimes colour their faces in with magic markers too look like me (or maybe it's to mock me). Doesn't matter I have more hair on face than they will ever have elsewhere.

Hairy facial real estate.

Want to see pure terror in a Middle School Students eyes (male). Threaten to cut off the elf burns. I got tired of watching my students spit style and groom the infamous elf-burns. It isn't so bad I guess but a whole table of boys grooming each others elf burns just ticks me off.

Rule is groom your fricking elfburns outside my class room or the wrath of my scissors will be upon you. The threat worked. Never actually had to go through with it. Elf burns are sacred and to be protected at all costs. They are a sign you are cool...3 years ago it was the "wolf" cut.

I thank god and all that is holy I am not a teenager.

I'm picking up what you're laying down. One of my kids was sad one day. I asked him why he was sad. He said he hated his new haircut. It looked like a normal boy short haircut. "There's nothing wrong with it," I told him. Which is probably as comforting as hearing from your shop teacher your haircut is stylin'.

Anyway, I couldn't quite figure out what was so bad about his haircut until I realized, oh, he got his elfburns cut off.

I dunno, if you're 10 years old great. But when you should be able to grow actual facial hair and you don't have enough male hormone to grow real sideburns, well, I guess a "comb down" and carrying your GF's purse everywhere is about all you can do.
