Your response contradicts itself. You want to show your disdain for Korea1, but it was a Korean that was found guilty2.
Not for making a profit, but for manipulating KEB credit card division so that Lone Star could make a larger profit3.
it was a Korean on Korean crime4. If this guilty party didn't try to suppress the stock price of KEB CC then he probably couldn't get approval to buy the unit from the Lone star headquarters.
Accounting fraud happens all the time in America. More so than Korea5 .
No foreigner was found guilty6. |
This is patently ridiculous. Clearly there is more fraud in Korea, as the Justice minister OF KOREA has said himself.
Do you care if people actually take you seriously? |
The head of the Korean IRS was indited for taking bribes. Jesus. Professors demand "editing fees" from grad students before they accept their dissertations. Professors sell jobs. Professors skim their research grants. There's no argument. Korea has a long way to go in terms of corruption, corporate governance, and transparency. |
(Numbers are mine.)
1 The old "criticize Korea and you're a racist" card. I wondered how long it would be before it was played.
2 As another poster pointed out, isn't Paul Yoo a Korean-American?
3 That's far less serious than many of the white-collar crimes commited by chaebol high-rankers who get off scot-free, usually by appearing in court in a wheelchair.
4 As I said before, more serious Korean-on-Korean crimes have been dealt with far less severely.
5 Let's take a look at the Corruption Perceptions Index, shall we?

The R.O.K. sure kicked Bhutan's ass. And watch out, Malaysia and South Africa! By this time next year, you'll be bravo-ing the hub of sparkling!
And let's not forget Kenneth Lay. The man was not only the CEO of one of the biggest corporations in America, he was also close, personal friends with the president of the United States of America, George W. Bush. And he was sentenced to jail. That never happens in Korea.
6 But they sure wanted to.

``It is still too early to consider Grayken's criminal punishment. We're still in the early stage of the investigation,'' Song Hae-eun, a prosecutor in charge, told reporters.

"Criminal punishment" for Grayken? For what? He was never formally charged with anything, much less put on trail. He came to Korea voluntarily as a witness, and got grilled for 12 hours a day, each day, for more than a week. It's obvious that they wanted to charge a foreigner but couldn't, so this Paul Yoo is the sacrificial lamb to appease the mob baying for blood. |
