Chavez wants to nationalize food production because, gasp, in a nation where there's huge amounts of oil money, food producers aren't allowed to share in the wealth.

Hayek? Like Friedman, all he did was repackage the discredited 18th Century economic theory of free markets, the application of which has turned out to be unsurprisingly just as big a failure as the first time round.

Lemme at him. That you had a choice of airliners to take to Korea and weren't compelled to take Pan Am is kinda evidence against that.

In this case I was not speaking of Hayek's ideas about how an economy exactly ought to be run but rather his very clear (and historically accurate) description about how a centralized planned economy creates shortages, dysfunction and eventually tyranny.

But I largely agree with his economic ideas too.

Which books of his have you read?
