You are running for president. What would be your political platform?
Mine:
1. A manhattan project for alternative energy 2. Greatly simplify the tax system. Cut the IRS at least in half. 3. 50 cents a gallon gas tax 4. A moratorium on all legal immigration 4. A drastic decrease of overseas troops. Starting with Korea on day one. 5. Campaign finance reform. Free television time. 6. A one off tax of 10% of total wealth for individuals worth more than 10 million. 7. No more foreign aid of any kind 8. No more lobbyists for foreign governments. 9. No more automatic citizenship for those born on US soil

This wasnt actually my idea. It came from Buffet or Soros. How would this tax affect the lifestyle of anyone paying it?

Honestly I like some of your ideas. With the insults being thrown around today by certain individuals, I'm going to pass on saying anything else.

Well, if I were PM of Canada I'd 1) end the war on drugs and move towards a rehabilitation model 2) impose a heavy tax on carbon and other forms of pollution as a substitute for income taxes 3) reform immigration so it better reflects the economic and cultural realities of the country 4) dramatically increase funding for quantitative post-secondary disciplines and dramatically decrease funding for the liberal arts/humanities. 5) a comprehensive reform of the Department of Indian Affairs and a strong emphasis on education and rehabilitation both on and off the reserve.

And some other stuff.

Oh, and I'd pull Canada out of Afghanistan and stop most of our foreign aid (much of which does more harm than good). Canada still gives development assistance to China, for example.

Giving aid to China is disgusting. They are sending guys into space yet need handouts. Truly awful.

1. Abolish all taxes on property and income of all kinds at all levels, Federal, State and Local.
2. Abolish the IRS
3. Establish a constitutionally limited 10% maximum tax on consumption ONLY (like sales or VAT) to be collected by the states and shared among all levels of government. This would establish a cap of 10% on the size of government compared to the consumption in the economy. All savings and investment would be tax free as a result. Sharing percentages to be worked out during the writing and passage of the necessary amendments.
4. Issue new money backed by gold.
5. Prohibit new borrowing by any level of government for any purpose.
6. Bring the troops home from Iraq and the middle east ASAP, as close to immediately as possible.
7. Draw down the troops and close bases around the world and bring the troops home in a pre-announced and orderly manner. All troops to be home in 10 years.
8. Eliminate Social Security taxes and benefit promises for anyone under 50 immediately. Phase out with reduced benefits for those 50 to 60. Continue the program, freeze benefits for those 60 plus.
9. Cut salaries for all government workers and bureaucrats by 50% for all earnings over $40,000 per year. Phase in a pay cap for government workers equal to the US median per capita pay level.
10. Reduce pay for elected officials (executive and legislative branches) at all levels of government to $100 per year.
11. Abolish the war on drugs. Pardon and free nonviolent convicted drug offenders.
12 Abolish all subsidies in the transportation and energy markets. Privatize the transportation and energy industries completely.
13. Abolish most Federal departments and programs. There is little that needs to be kept beyond a real US military, a small State Department and payments to the retirees 60 and over as promised. It would take a very small budget to pay and manage the reduced legislative and executive branches.
14. Sell off government lands, assets, buildings and business to pay off the debts and finance the new currency.
15. Return the right of property owners to defend their property against polluters. This would have the effect of ending air pollution forever by protecting the free market right of property owners to defend their clean air.
16. Privatize all rivers, lakes and other water assets. These would be incorporated and managed by boards of directors who would be able to earn revenues by managing resource sales of fishing, boating water usage and other rights and end pollution completely by making their property rights absolute and eliminating the socialist pollution laws that actually legalize pollution. Ownership would be transferred by selling shares to the citizens of the states or federal government as appropriated. Each citizen would be entitled to subscribe to only a limited number of shares in the initial stock offering, but would be free to dispose of them thereafter.
17. Abolish the minimum wage and all forms of occupational licensure that prevent workers from getting a job.
18. Abolish all forms of welfare and allow the free market of families, concerned individuals, private churches and private charities to take care of those very few who actually need help.
19. AFTER securing the borders and abolishing all government subsidies, allow free immigration to those who want to come to America and work. I would NOT end birthright citizenship.
20. Establish the principle that ALL laws, rules and regulations of the Federal Level of government (and the same for each state) must be limited to what can be printed in a maximum of 799 pages in a standard encyclopedia type size and format and taught and learned in a single year of High School by an average student. Local governments should be even more tightly limited - perhaps to 50 pages that can be read in a day.
