As for all you dumpster divers, I am certain that you often see stickers on the furniture you cart away. Those stickers represent the money paid by the person who paid to have the local recycling center take away the items.

Recycling centers can be found in almost gus - you just have to find a person in your area who will admit to knowing where one is. The problem in finding them is that Koreans take much pride in buying new items and don't like people to know if they are buying second-hand products so, often, people don't like to admit that they know where the centers are.

My husband and I have bought many, many items from these centers. Prices vary from one center to the next. The good news is that if you are looking for a large item, they will usually transfer it for free - and, oddly enough, we never had to pay a penny down until they brought to our home.

Also, most recycling centers guarantee their products. We got a stereo once that broke, they repaired it but it broke again so and they gave us our money back.

Most things bought from these places are good deals. We have gotten some really nice older mother-of-pearl pieces, as well as the hardwood Korean traditional pieces with brass trim.

Be Peace....

Actually, that site, while giving some info, is really short on the big picture. As for Seoul, I have been to the Daechi area center and the one in Seodaemun. As well, the commuter areas have a slew of them. A few include Gunpo (not a gu but a city,) Bundang and Gwacheon. Almost all major areas have one.
