Hi all,

I'm new to this website and I'm thinking of moving out to Seoul this summer. I am able to speak survival Japanese and semi-conversational Spanish. I'm really hoping I'll find some opportunities to continue practicing those two languages here and there. So, are there any Japanese or Spanish speaking communities in Seoul? If so, are we talking about two Mexican cooks and a Japanese fisherman or are we talking about a sizable chunk of people?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

MissSeoul, we're all still waiting for your picture! Ahem!

619chops, there are heaps of Japanese in Seoul. Thousands of female tourists in Myong-dong, hundreds of students in Shinch'on. Find out where Bae Young-jun's house is and you'll find about a million more outside his door!

MissSeoul is a forty year, obese, balding man from Saskatechewan. Don't mind the old geezer.

There is definately a Japanese speaking community in Seoul as well as a smaller Spanish one. I'm sure there are some friendfinder websites where you can locate these kinds of people.

there's a cafe place for koreans that are learning korean.
it's really hard to find, and i've only been there once.

i believe the name of the place is kakehashi. japanese people also go there to practice korean. and i think they have games either everyday or every few days...they had one when i was there.

if you win, you get a ticket for a free drink haha.

I met a woman who works in the Spanish Embassy and asked her how many Spanish citizens there are in Korea. She told me around one hundred, mostly either Spanish language professors and businesspeople.

There are more Spanish speakers though- all the Koreans working at the Embassy speak fluent Spanish, and there are also people from other Spanish-speaking countries here too, although I have no numbers on them.

I can't help you on the Japanese except to say many Koreans speak Japanese, and there are Japanese people here either for travel or work.

There is a Spanish speaking group that meets once every two weeks to meet other Spanish speakers on facebook. It's called Spanish Speakers in Seoul. There is also another one on meetup.com
