Just curious. You speak to 95% of the members of this board and they'll tell you all the places they've been. Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, China... Europe, Australia, you name it. But a select few of us have never traveled. I've been two places in my life: East Coast Canada, and Korea. That is it my friends.

Though I've been dreaming of traveling for years and years, and have always desperately wanted to, I simply can't. Maybe I can start seeing some new countries my next contract.

Anyway, who here *hasn't* traveled before coming to Korea? Is Korea more negotiable to someone who hasn't traveled before as opposed to someone who has (we have nothing to compare it to)?

There is a huge difference b/w travelling 4 countries and travelling the 7 seas!
A good start to get out and about would be to go to Beijing as it is close and is one of the cheapest flights from Korea. There are some great things to do/see there as well ie. Great wall, Forbidden City etc
Be careful when looking at the package deals as some are dodgy and most don't include the hefty tax fee.
If that is all too hard, head down to Jeju for a day or 2.

Avoid the package tours if at all possible, particularly ones with Koreans. I've yet to hear a report of one that didn't focus on the nearly forced shopping, and lengthy excursions to find Korean food, though I suppose that might appeal to some people.

My advice to you would be to save a million a month for a year then take a year off grab some lonely planet books and get out there.

Haven't been to the America's or Australasia yet.

This is my second time living abroad, the first time was in an English speaking country so I didnt really struggle with cultural differences etc. Also having travelled, you "feel" prepared, but living and working in a place is vastly different from just passing through.

Agreed. there is a big difference between living in a country and just passing through with your camera. I can have "travelled" to every country on Earth, but never have experienced anything but superficial aspects of any of it. So I would say that if you have been living in a culture different from your own, then this should prepare you somewhat for life here.

OP--

I think what you'll find is that those from Europe have traveled to the most countries because they were blessed enough to be born in such close proximity! We North Americans got shafted in this department, but that's no reason not to do our best to see the world!
