mccain can't be president. he was born in panama. he is not "native born" (just like schartzenegger). "native born" is a requirement as per the constitution. military bases abroad are not US teritory and kids born there do not get US citizenship by birth.
who is second in the GOP race? |

quoting the wikipedia you provided: "...it has never been fully addressed whether children born to Americans overseas are "natural born citizens" and thus eligible for the Presidency." |

Then it's not settled, is it?
Anyway, McCain was born way before the Constitution was ratified. So, what's the problem? |

It seems like a far fetched arguement to get rid of McCain. The party is going to nominate him, so that's who you are stuck with. |

yes, in this modern time following the constitution is farfetched.
as long as we have a ruling class that puts themselves above the law we shall continue to have... a ruling class in a purported democratic republic.
out with the old vested interests, in with the new vested interests! |

McCain does not have a majority of delegates to win on the first round, in which case anything can happen.
Lincoln went into the convention with only 10% of the delegates and we all know what happened then. |

masan, you've posted quite a few silly things before, but this one is probably the silliest.
John Sidney McCain was born on August 29, 1936, in the Panama Canal Zone. Born into a family with a distinguished reputation in the U.S. Navy, both his father and grandfather were admirals and his father rose to command all the U.S. naval forces in the Pacific, McCain spent his childhood and adolescent years moving between naval bases in America and abroad.
In other words, you are saying a kid born abroad to two citizens of the US, one of them a parent on active military duty at the time is not a natural born citizen?
Only an idiot would bring this up.
You would get farther if you wanted to challenge his right to be president because his middle name is Sidney. That would get some support. |

found it. 8USC1403 made it so that anyone born in the panama territory to US parents during that era were 'natural born" americans.
so, ok, mccain can now legally lose to any democratic candidate. |

You are right, he doesn't. Given the fact he has 714 delegates and only needs 1200 with Huckabee 400 delegates back I can't invision what you are saying will happen. He only needs to win about 450 out of the remaning 1100 votes. My question then is who is going to challange him for the nomination. If you say Ron Paul, I'm going to laugh hard. The Lincoln example is 150 years ago long before the mass media we know today.
The only other choice is Huckbee and he unfortunately only appeals to evengelical Republicans. While I personally wouldn't vote for McCain, I would consider Huckabee. Again, it's your own party's fault for nominating these people. Just about the same can be said for the Democrats nominating Kerry in 2004. |

please address the topic of the post and not the poster.
overseas military posts are not US soil. yes, there are two ways to be born american: be born in the US or be born of US parentage.
the eligibility of who can be president is spelled out in the constitution: "No Person except a natural born...". kinda hard to see where being born in panama makes one native of the US.
happily, as noted in a previous post- 8USC1403 is clear enough to provide "native born" status to children of american born in the canal zone back in the day. |

Most people stay on topic on this board as little as possible. I wish I had a link to the thread I started a week ago or so where IGTG spammed a bunch of off-topic stuff.
Given the fact that the Republicans are going to nominate him, I have to ask yet again why people aren't doing more to stop him. |
