I checked out the Yonsang Electronics market but didn t see
any electric guitars.

Where are they sold in Seoul?

Is there a district in the city that sells good quality (and grey market)
musical instruments?

Yes, Nakwon. It's right by Insadong off of Chong-no.

Hi,

This thread has mentioned several times in the past that laptops are the one thing that tends to be more expensive (even in Yongsan) than back in the USA or Canada. How true is that now? Are prices still discouraging?
I'm in the market for a new laptop, mostly for writing and web surfing. Nothing fancy.

If you're going to Canada or the US anytime soon, Dell has a decent laptop (the 1501) that they've been selling on and off for 499 Canadian. I'm trying on one right now, in fact. Possibly the best deal in the world for a basic laptop.

Korean laptops are running around 600,000w for a basic model on www.omi.co.kr.

Laptops will run 800k+ for a new one and then you have the language issue to deal with (getting it changed or an English system in the first place).

I don't think this should be an issue as far as I can work out most retailers in Yongsan will install an English version of windows for no extra charge.

I've been to Youngsan a couple of times now, casually looking for a digital multimedia projector. I've only been able to find one shop that sells them, though, in the Digital Living building, and the guy there doesn't speak any English, and even with a Korean woman helping me out would not show me the boxes or any documentation which might reveal the specifications.

Is there anyone more familiar with Yongsan (or elsewhere) who might be able to point me in the right direction? Also, any knowledge as to pricing here versus North America? Thanks.

Bless you, Lemon, I followed your directions to the T and I got me a copy of Windows WX and even Office 2003 from the dude at the end of the tunnel--and wow--so much to see outside the tunnel....so many vendors of cheap DVD movies, and moderately or cheaply price computer accessories!! Just an awesome place!

You mean he's still there?! I've all but led the anti-piracy cops to the guy by a leash with this thread for the last five years, and he's still in operation? And he's still got the cellphone and the smoke? If the police hadn't gotten him, the brain cancer from the phone or the lung cancer from his This Plus would have done him in by now....

Those directions were perfect - there is a Canon centre right outside Jongno3ga station, exit 1, on the fourth floor of the KB building right outside the exit, if anyone needs it for future reference. Hopefully I will have a working camera again in a few days, yay!

I knew that a search here would turn up this here information I needed.

Of course, it was a Google search, but still: Valuable information resources can be found amongst the gong-show...

This is a great thread, much thanks to Lemon for starting it.

I've read in many different posts and threads that it's possible to get a PS2 modded at Yongsan, but I can't seem to find any real directions. Can anyone tell me a bit more specifically where I can go to get this done? One post said Shinyongsan in the underground section, but should I just go there and look around until I see gaming systems? It sounds like so many people have modded systems here, someone must know.

Thanks very much,

- CGully

I've been to all of those buildings the past year (and purchased games and cameras and other computer accessories) and will really miss them when I go back to the States in two weeks. I love those style of markets. I'll have fond memories of Yongsan. In fact, I'll go there tomorrow to get a couple last-minute 'items' I might need. Razz
