I honestly don't know where the proper forum for this post might be, so I will put it here for now. I live in Apgujeong and have lost my dog. She jumped from my car last night as I opened the door to put my take out food in. I have searched again and again for her. If anyone randomly comes across this unique jindo with the floppy ear I will compensate you. Her name is Claire and she is very timid. I know that this is a stretch as she has probably been taken in someone's house by now, but I will hold out that hope that I can find her. I stupidly enough did not have a tag on her with my # and info.

I hope you've gone to the local police to let them know that you're looking, as someone who finds the dog would inquire there. Also, you should let the vet/pet shops in the area know, give them a photo. I "found" a golden retriever and the owner eventually caught up with me through the police...
Hope you find your dog! |

E,
As a real dog lover I am sorry for your missing/lost pooch. I think Intrepid gave good advice and hope you get her back soon!
Good luck,
Stoakley |

If you go see your local vet and give them a jpg or similar photo that they can post online they will send her pic to an online register of missing dogs that (I understand) all vets in Seoul can access - so if someone finds her and takes her to any vet they should be able to identify you as her owner if they check the register.
Fingers crossed for you. |

A jindogae, which she is, is protected by the government as the 53rd national treasure of the country. I live in Apgujeong, not the sticks. I'm not worried about her being someone's dinner. Thanks for the...well whatever it is you posted. |

I've seen Korean people keep and eat jindogae dogs in the 4 years i've been here. Good luck to you.
My wife's family live in the country, and yes they have kept and eaten jindogae dogs. From what i've seen.

Me too.
Please also check your local "gu" office and vet clinics in the area. If you're close to the border, call the neighboring "gu" office as well.
This is so terrible. |

This is what pisses me off about dogs, they're so stupid whenever they run away and it backfires on them everytime. I guess curiosity gets the best out of them.
Best of luck finding your dog and keep us updated. |

Being protected by the Korean government seems like a joke, as so many Laws in Korea are broken by Korean Government officers. |

I agree, but all of that aside, I just want her home and safe. I know more now that is unlikely to happen. I will keep up the search efforts and do as some of you recommended as well. Thanks for the input and concern all. |

I should add that the register of lost animals I was referring to is, I understand, one kept by the vet's association. It is consulted as a matter of course whenever a lost pet is brought in to any registered vet.
Also, you should speak to your vet & find out which council / govt pounds your dog could be brought to if she was found in your local area by the dog catchers / council rangers. Visit those pounds & give them several photos of your dog and all your contact details, they shouldn't mind you doing this as it is in their interests as well as yours that your dog not spend time at their facility. I would recommend you do this asap as (I am told) that the amount of time which council/govt shelters will hold unclaimed dogs and cats before they are euthanased has been reduced from 30 to 10 days very recently. |

I saw them raised as pets around my neighborhood where I saw them everyday. There was one kept on a chain right outside of the police station. By the end of the summer, they were all gone! I can only guess what happened to them. This was real close to Seoul too. I don't know if most people can tell the difference between a "meat dog" and a jindo. Many of them look so similar, it's next to impossible to tell them apart.
Anyway, I'd put up signs with pictures and a sizable cash reward for her safe return and start at all the local supermarkets near where you lost her. |

Nothing much more to add except one more set of crossed fingers.
My dog ran away (in the U.K.) and was gone for 10 days. He was really timid and totally not streetwise but he was eventually found. It was a really bad time so I can empathise.
Keep us posted. |
