Hello Folks,
Korea has took a hold of me finally and I'm planning on working at a public school for this time next year. (Peru can wait for one more year I think!)
I have searched all the posts about this subject and a lot of the posts are quite old but from what I can gather you cannot pick where you teach with EPIK? I want to live in Seoul so how do I get a public school position in Seoul? Do I have to go through a recruiter?
I also know about SMOE, is it hard to get a placement with SMOE?
Cheers in advance! |

I used to teach privately at SMOE so I have friends there and they would place me but, I prefer working in the boondocks. |

Spliff... it is a bit early for you to 'spliff' my thread!
Anyway, I thought you were in Thailand? |

I have an interview at a public school tomorrow. I did not go through "official" routes. I just went around with a copy of my CV (in English and Korean) to different schools in my area. Lots of public schools "self-fund" a native speaker position on their own hook. Basicly the kids parents chip in a bit of cash to pay for a teacher. I own my own place and have an F2-1 visa so it made things easier for me I think. |

EPIK does not place teachers in Seoul (you want SMOE). If you want to pick your school, a recruiter can be helpful. For me, my recruiter gave me a choice of 5 schoolsI picked one and that was where I was placed. |

Unfortuneatley, I have the E2 and will be coming back on an E2 visa, so it means I have to go back to the UK and reapply for another visa anyway, but thank you for your input.

It looks like I can go via a recruiter and this time hold out for a job that I want.
I wouldn't mind working around Gyeonggi-do, Suwon or Bundang would be ideal, just as long as there is a subway line I can hop on to visit the 'big smoke' (aren't I a total hick? ) |
