Has anyone been for a face-to-face interview at the Embassy in Pretoria? I checked with the Embassy if it is necessary, which they confirmed but I'm trying to find a way to have a phone interview instead because I live pretty far away. Does anyone know if this is possible, and how can I get them to do this?

Any advice on the Embassy interview in South Africa will be appreciated

I'm in Korea, so I have no idea. If you're feeling kind, could you maybe ask them if someone would have to do the interview if they've already taught in Korea? It would be much appreciated.

No, I've never had to do an interview. Only those who are 1st-timers will be required to do so, I think.

Best is to phone the embassy and make a list of all requirements. From the horse's mouth, so to speak, or at least in theory.

I went for the interview on Friday, and it was really just a few questions about why you want to teach in Korea, whether you have taken any drugs before and so on. Nothing serious.

It seems only people that have not taught in Korea before have to have the interview. However, if you need to have one, it has to be in person. But if you go early enough you should get your visa the same day.

I live in the eastern cape, so it's a bit of a mission getting to pretoria. If anyone else has been in the same situation as me (having to get from JHB airport to Pretoria), please could you recommend a way of getting there.... hiring a car/taxi/etc..?

Seriously, I have no @#$%ing clue. Public transport sux...Taxi's from the airport are notoriously expensive and you are looking at probably a 90min drive outside rush hour (and believe me...rush hour is MURDER on the N1)

IMO, the ONLY option is to rent a car.

The best option for transport from the airport in my experience is to hire a car. You can get pretty good deals, usually less than R200 a day with 200kms free. Taxis are very expensive (usually about R200 to R300, ONE WAY) and a bit dodgy. Also, from the airport you can take the R21 to Pretoria, and go straight to Fountains Circle, which turns off into George Storrar Drive - where the embassy is located.

Edit: kara-gina - the people at the embassy seemed pretty sure you could get your visa the same day - if you have everything in order, came in early in the day, and especially if you have travelled from far. Give them a call and chat about it. Their tel number is (012) 346 2026.

good news for anyone still needing to have the interview... as from april 1st, those of us who live outside of gauteng don't need to go in for an interview, but we do have to send a self-introductory cd instead! a bit awkward videotaping yourself, but it saves the hassle of that trip and the visa is supposed to take 3 working days....
