For the last few days, I have been trying to find trailers and spoilers related to the upcoming George A. Romero flick "Diary of the Dead" which chronicles the beginning of the apocolypse of the living dead, all seen through the eyes of film students caught in the middle of it.
From what I've seen, I think this would alot better than the last flop "Land of the Dead" in that it doesn't seem to be full of overt political or social overtones and seems to be following the same cinematic style as "Cloverfield" and "The Blair Witch Project", which gives it a sense of semi-realism to it. And what makes this better than the 2004 remake "Dawn of the Dead" is that the zombies are not zipping across the screen, which made the movie unbelievable....
If anyone else has been following it, what is your take on it? |

What part of zombies is not unbelievable? |

The Zombie Survival Guide explains everything pretty well. According to leading experts, zombies' mobility functions are severely limited in class I and class II outbreaks.

At last! A thread which discusses a topic pertinent to Korea, zombieism. A fantastic book by the author of The Zombie Survival Handbook, Max Brooks, is World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. Highly recommended.
As far as Romero is concerned, his weakest film in the zombie cycle was definitely Day of the Dead. What separates these films from the rest of the dreck/gorno is Romero's informed approach to social satire. Who could forget zombies shambling around a shopping mall, or Romero's casting of a black male who wasn't Sidney Poitier in the lead of a film in the late 60s? And the killing off of the hero at the end of Night of the Living Dead by a posse of good old boys?
I am intrigued by the prospect of a zombie flick shot a la Blair Witch/ Cloverfield. The intinsic immediacy that HD video can give a horror flick is unmistakeable, however I wonder if this film will be shot like 28 Days Later, or with the vomit inducing shakiness of Cloverfield.
Whatever. As a zombie maven, I look forward to this film. |

Actually, I don't know. Being a master of zombology limits my ability to interact with fascinating individuals such as yourself. In fact, the only way I can really express myself is on boards like this, hoping beyond hope that someone posts a thread on which I can speak pedantically about some obscure subject.
Wait a minute, I was speaking? |

Guys, just remember, if you see a zombie, what do you do? Why, you gotta, "Shoot them in the head!". |

Actually, you have to destroy the brain. And blades don't need reloading. |

But with blades there is the proximity factor. You would take a great risk in being bitten, and we all know what that would mean. I wouldn't want to have to put someone down... |

Unless you are a crackshot, you are gonna gave to take the proximity factor into consideration regardless of situation. And I am not talking about a penknife; something more along the lines of a claymore. Heavy, hard and sharp.
And if I had to be put down, I would rather it was you than anyone else. |

If you were bitten, Craven, would you tell the group, or would you hide it from everybody? |

I'm not sure if you have to be a member of IGN.com, but if not you can view an AWESOME scene here that gives you an idea of how it will be shot.
Not nearly as shaky as the BWP or Cloverfield.

In a recent interview, Romero said that the film is focused on the current trend of blogging and infotainment. |

I thought that the movies made this past decade by Romero had the themes pretty much handed to the audience on a platter, the only movie I thought that was authentically "good" was Night of the Living Dead in that the movie showed, if possible, how a zombie would move (slow due to rigor mortis) and that the people would pretty much argue about what to do (I guess that part would be seen as the human part of the movie....) unlike the zippy movements of the zombies in the remake of Dawn of the Dead or even 28 Days/ 28 Weeks Later.......which (again) I find hard to believe because of rigor mortis......
What would you do if dead apocolypse happened tomorrow? |

How extensive does the destruction have to be? Does chopping off the head count, or would the head still live?
You'll have to excuse my zombignorance. |
