Moms is coming for a visit. Gonna do up 2-3 days in Seoul. It's been about 4 years since I lived there so my memory is a little foggy. Here is my list of things to see and do... what am I missing?

Dongdaemun
Insa dong
Kyungbuk Palace
That new river thingy (is it really worth it?)
Jump on the bus tour and check out some other castles/temples.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

You could do the Seoul City Bus Tour. That's cover a lot of ground and make transportation less of a hastle.

No

My recommendation would be the Seodaemun Prison - 2-3 days a week there are volunteer English tour guides which may make it more interesting for your mom, check the days for English tours and if you can go, you really should.

If she's really 70, you probably need to think up activities that don't require a lot of walking.

She's a young and spry 70! Dances 5 days a week, tennis 3 times, tai chi twice... Still though, won't be climbing any mountains.

Not much to see there now. Korea's #1 treasure is a pile of burnt wood and ashes. Sad thing.

I recommend Insadong area, which is also close to Kyung buk palace. The shops, galleries, craft and food venders are as good as any in Korea, I think, and English is generally spoken and understood.

The Sanchon restaurant's evening dinner show (Korean drums/dance) is worth seeing. I suggest consulting the main tourist information center on Insadong street (near Anguk station) to coordinate times of special events that often take place there on weekends ...

If it's cold, I recommend the national museum. It's at Ichon Station (line 4?).

I'll second the Seoul Bus tour. My parents were just here 2 weeks ago and quite enjoyed it; they are 5/6 years younger though. Cost 10,000 per person for an all day pass. Check any of the tourist info. booths for where they pick up/start.

River thing isn't worth it. It's a river in between man-made concrete walls, with pretty lights. Nice if you are in the Dongdaemun area anyway, but not worth the trip on its own.

I would suggest taking the cable-car ride up Namsan mountain to Seoul Tower in the early evening, so as the sun sets you can get a night time view of the city. The same kind of view can be done at the 63 building on Yeoido island, but the cable car is fun. Also, at the base of the mountain is a traditional Korean village you could take her to.

Gyeongbokgong, Changdeokgung, and Insadong are all fairly close together. Insadong is great for touristy trinkets. If you are there on a Sat or Sun, the street is closed off to motorized traffic, so it's more enjoyable.

Also, the war museum (from Noksapyeong or Samgakji stations) was a big hit with people I know who came here for a while.

If she's into shopping, Myeongdong is a great shopping area, and it's really busy, so it'd give her a good idea of the crowded-ness (lol new word) that is Seoul.

When I had a friend coming, I simply googled "Top 10 things to do in Seoul", and clicked on a few links. I got tons of great ideas!

Hope this helped.
