All excellent choices, and I might also recommend Citizen Ruth (also directed by Alexander Payne), Night of the Hunter (starring Robert Mitchum as the bad guy and directed by Charles Laughton), The Third Man (directed by Carol Reed and starring Orson Welles as the most diaboloical of screen villains, Harry Lime).
Lastly, I would highly recommend Jean Pierre Melville's Le Samourai or Bob Le Flambeur, both of which have had a profound impact on Johnny Woo and the whole "heroic bloodshed" motif so prevalent in Hong Kong cinema. |

Recently watched The King of Kong, an awesome documentary about champion Donkey Kong players. No, really. It's awesome.

Here's one of my favorites. A really oldie starring W.C. Fields, George Burn and Gracie Allen, Bela Lugosi, etc. etc.
"International House" is about a Chinese genius who invents something called "television" back in 1931. Everyone is trying to get the rights to the invention, everyone except W.C. Fields, who happens upon the hotel, International House, by accident during his around the world flight in his helicopter, The Spirit of Brooklyn. Meanwhile, the inventor's great ambition in life is to tune in to six day bicycle race at Madison Square Garden.
Oh, and since it is so old, the copyright should have expired long ago, so downloading it should be legal. |

| "Eagle Versus Shark" is really good. I'm only halfway through it right now, but it's good. |

Ok, I finished it now, and yup, that movie RULES. It's pathetic in the classical sense, but also really funny. I laughed I cried I laughed again and all that stuff.
Eagle versus Shark is the best movie I've seen all week.

I liked "Once". Brilliant soundtrack.
Oh, obscure? "Sleeper" by Woody Allen. |

Amazing movie about a couple's decline into drug addiction. Really tragic.

I watched the first 30 minutes. Stopped. Couldn't get past the guy's whiney voice.
Went back the next day and watched it again and tried to blank out his whiney voice and it actually got a lot better. The story as such was pretty good. |

Maybe, but he wouldn't stop doing his insipid Coldplay impression. |
