We have some growing content from people who have been there. Still not much, compared to other locations, though.

Don't complain. At least this time there wasn't the snide prerequisite mention of the number of dog restaurants in the area.
Anseong is about twenty minutes from Cheonan, heading up the expressway to Seoul, if that helps any. |

OP, in order to get there for a weekend trip in February...I believe we went to Pyeontaek station, then took fairly long bus ride. (I may not have been in Anseong proper. Don't really recall. The bus ride was 30 mins? 45 mins?)
So go to the subway website (http://www.smrt.co.kr/english_smrt/cyberstation_smrt/cyberstation.jsp) and find the station you want in Seoul, then Pyeontaek.
It's 100 mins from City Hall to the subway station, and then the bus ride on top of it. |

I was in Anseong in January. It was a pretty small and quiet town, but had a nice shopping area and all the necessities. There was a big E-mart at one end of the town. It was about a 90 minute bus ride from Seoul.
PM me and I might have some pics. |

It really dependson where your school is. If you're near the center of Anseong, it can be quite nice. There's a new Emart for all the modern grocery stuffs, but there's a rather nice traditional market where you can do your shopping Korean style. Busses from anseong terminal (sounds grand, ,doesn't it?) go pretty much everywhere and are generally faster than taking the bus out to pyeongtaek station then taking the subway. YMMV.
There are also some nice attractions just beyond the city - it's a perfect place to have a motorbike.
However, Anseong actually covers a lot of countryside that's filled with schools. If you get placed at one of those, your choice will be to either live in the nearest small village (probably a bad idea), or near Anseong downtown and commute to school (which may be as much as 30 mins each way)
Personally, I think if you're a complete newbie, you may want to give the place a miss. There are other, bigger cities which will be a little easier to live in. However, if you know a little Korean and are a 'go with the flow' kind of person, you could do a lot worse. It definitely has its charms. |
