Ive been in Korea for a wee while now and thinking about a change/planning for the future, does anyone know what the best teaching certification is the best to have to travel on or which is recognized in the most countries (New Zealand is top of the list) and maybe a move to Saudi/UAE is on the cards this year so any info relating to that would be welcomed, so if there is a place in Seoul/Korea that i could study at, that would also be great.

Many Thanks

More free advertising attempts from the CELTA people.

Why not ask in the Middle East section of Dave's?

http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewforum.php?f=29

Honestly, I don't know why Dave puts up with it. These CELTA ad posts seem to come at the rate of about 2 per week now, and they're all worded like, "Gee... uh... is it true that like, the CELTA is the best TEFL in the world, and accepted everywhere?"

The CELTA CULTA is a big organization charging over 2.3 million for their certification in Korea. They certainly have enough money to pay for some advertising on here. I'm not a mod, but I think they should start deleting these posts, or lock them.

Luckily, if you are in Korea, you can take the KEI-TEFL course, along with on-site teaching, for 525,000 won. Their 100+ hour certification is accepted at Korean public schools, and will get you the 100,000 to 200,000 per month raise that having a TEFL certification brings here. Anyone interested in this course can google it.

Another one to google is ITTT. ITTT's TEFL course is only $295 US. That will also work in Korea, if you plan to teach here. Darkness, you can also take some business English certifications in with that.

I admire you, bassexpander, for your tenacity - but give the poor OP a break! Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it is an innocently posed question posted in this forum due to his being in the republic. A simple URL to other threads with your crusading views on CELTA would probably suffice.

I do agree with you, bassexpander, that the KEI-TEFL course and the ITTT course make financial sense for those wanting to move up a pay bracket in Korea - but neither will do the poster much good in New Zealand (or the Middle East), where the only short courses given any credence are (in hushed tones out of respect for bassexpander) CELTA, and also trinity.

However, OP, teaching English in NZ can be quite a difficult field to enter as a lot of the ESL teachers here (in NZ) have postgrad quals (MATESOL, GradDipTeach, etc.) with short course certificates being their points of differentiation.

Anyhow, If you have experience, decent postgrad quals, and get a short course cert, you should be able to find a teaching position in Auckland without too much fuss...and even if you just get yourself a short course cert with an undergrad degree, you might still get lucky and find a teaching position - especially if you choose to do a cert (and do it well!) at a school that also regularly hires teachers.

I got my Trinity TESOL in Prague. It is the other certification recognized by the British Council. It was a great program and I learned a lot. The same school offers class for business English, CertTEYL, and a MATESOL in Spain. PM me if you want any information. My program also had great placement help and lots of graduates teaching in different parts of the world to give you advice.

CELTA, DELTA (do CELTA first), or TrinityTESOL. These are internationally recognized English teaching certificates. Don't bother with any online certificate. Go strong, do a CELTA, DELTA (do CELTA first), or TrinityTESOL. Having one of these gold-standard, internationally recognized TESOL certificates is the best thing you can do for yourself and the beginning of a career.

Here is my CELTA experience taking it in Seoul and clarified the course. You can take it in Seoul at the British Council or TTI.

Here is my KEI-TEFL experience (and comparison to the CELTA) on this message thread.
