MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A student was shot in a cafeteria Monday during a high school gym class, and the suspected shooter was in custody, police said.
The injured student, a male in the senior class, had at least two gunshot wounds and was believed to be in critical condition, police spokeswoman Monique Martin said.

Ah, wanton violence . . . a big reason I'm not looking forward to going back to the States. |

Yet Charlton Heston, NRA super-douche, lives on. Apparently forever. Where is the justice?

Yeah, it's strange how it becomes the norm to see this type of violence in the news. Definitely one of the many things about The States that I do not miss.
I remember watching one of the youtube Republican debates a while back and one citizen simply wanted to know the candidates' stances on the topic, while he shot off a rifle on his video...very brilliant man The candidates even went into detail as to what types of guns they personally own! |

-yet they will never shoot someobdy, but some idiot crack dealer is running around with a 9mm he bought out of someone's trunk in North Philly. And the answer is to make ,what, more laws, so he can't buy guns out of people's trunks? Cocaine is a lot more illegal then a shotgun, and a lot easier to buy. Something is wrong with that... |

What are your suggested solutions to reducing the level and frequency of violence in American society? |

YES! All Americans own guns and are ready to shoot you and each other! You come to our country and we WILL shoot you. Watch any movie if you want to know the truth about American society.
My guns talk to me. They tell me who they will shoot next. They tell me when to snort my coke and when to go to a mall for some target practice. I am evil, evil, evil for owning guns. I own handguns, rifles, shot guns and, of course, fully automatic weapons. It's a hobby, what can I say? I am truly not responsible for my guns' actions. GUNS kill people...people don't kill people. |

I'm not sure what your point is. Guns are tools which make killing easier just like glasses make seeing easier. |

Knives make killing easier. Cars make killing easier. Hammers make killing easier. Chainsaws make killing easier. Fire makes killing easier. Water makes killing easier.
Making sure there no guns (which is like putting toothpaste back in the tube) will not stop people from killing each other. |

Overly simplistic logic.
"An attack committed with bare hands or a blunt instrument requires sustained effort against a victim who is actively trying to fight back or flee. These attacks often result in hospitalization followed by recovery. Using a knife decreases the victim's chances of survival, but still he/she may be able to fight or flee. A gun, however, allows the assailant to kill or wound in an instant, and to attack from a distance. Gunshot wounds are much more likely to be lethal the reason that armies are equipped with firearms (For an overview of the lethality of firearms see Cukier and Sidel (3)). Several studies have highlighted this lethality (4, 5). A comparison of hospital admissions of wound victims in South Africa found that 6% of knife wounds were fatal, while 28% of those with firearm wounds died. In Zambia, patients with firearm wounds required longer stays in hospital, and were admitted more frequently into intensive care units (ICU), and required more X-rays than contusions (6). When firearms have replaced traditional weapons in societies with pre-existing patterns of violence, observers found a marked increase in the lethality and destructiveness of conflict."
