My husband and I are working at a school in Mokdong but due to pay issues we are thinking of leaving. We are wondering what we will have to do if we want to stay in Korea and change schools? Go back to Canada and do it all over? Or just be able to start from here? HELP!!! |

How long will you have been working at your current school if you do plan to leave?
I believe the new regs let you change without too much fuss at the 9th or 10th month mark. Otherwise you may need a letter of release which is issued by your current employer and entirely up to them if they can be bothered to give you one.
Public schools through EPIK, GEPIK and SMOE seem quite good at getting people released from their contracts and getting favours from immigration. |

No, you always need a letter of release unless your actually finishing your contract. The ten month rule simply means that a person may change employers without the need to submit both a background check and medical check. If you can get a letter of release and it's still valid you can change to a public school even if you haven't reached the ten month mark.
Some people say that it's possible for immigration to let you change employers without a letter of release but others seem to think that for the most part that this rarely happens in practice and not unless the school your transferring to has some pull with immigration. |

I need to know how to do this for sure, too.
My contract finishes on March 1st, but there's some other steps I need to take now. First of all, I need to secure another job to start the day my current contract finishes. I think there's a different process, but, if memory serves me correct, I need to go about it in a different way than with the letter of release. I have to do a transfer. But then I've heard that it's the letter of release method.
Anyway, I need to find a new job first and then do the transfer.
Does anyone know exactly how to do this? Keep in mind that I've got over 11 months (actually over 2 years and 11 months) in on my current contract.
I remember ajumma did this and had no problem and she posted it on the E2 Guidelines sticky. Maybe I'll PM her. |

As far as I can work out a person can simply transfer their visa, using the letter of release method, and then have their visa extended for another year with their new employer. |
