More UK news:
Quote: |
British Olympic chiefs are to force athletes to sign a contract promising not to speak out about China's appalling human rights record or face being banned from travelling to Beijing.
The move which raises the spectre of the order given to the England football team to give a Nazi salute in Berlin in 1938 immediately provoked a storm of protest.
The controversial clause has been inserted into athletes' contracts for the first time and forbids them from making any political comment about countries staging the Olympic Games.
It is contained in a 32-page document that will be presented to all those who reach the qualifying standard and are chosen for the team. |

Are the Chinese so sensitive that they can't handle a runner talking a little smack to the media? Is the UK so permanently afraid of offending anybody that they took this upon themselves? How many times has Orwell rolled over in the past few years? |

I wonder if this is in reaction to the behavior of the fans at that boxing match in Las Vegas last month. The Brits did not demonstrate any appreciable level of cultural sensitivity in that one. |

I think they're more concerned about an international incident, like that Richard Gere movie where he was in China Red Corner, where his character was falsely accused of a crime.
The part I remember was when he was challenging the judge. The judge said something bad or something like "you will be punished more" and he says

What are you gonna do, you gonna shoot me twice |
I think they want to avoid that. |

The British have a bad mouth on them. I welcome all attempts at rectifying the situation. Good luck to the Chinese. |

I'd wait to see what Sharia law has to say about this. |

Judging by the course of events, you might not have to wait too long. |
