Not so much, actually.

Really? Do you mean they actually have better things to do?

I might be more willing to call a "Jap" a "Japanese" if they were a little less willing to refer to me as a (barbarian) and for that matter wiling to treat their Korean minorities a bit better.

CentralCali sound just a tad uptight.

Rape is wrong and should be a capital offense, resulting in execution.

Some light reading for you.

A few words from a great man.

It appears that Japanese law does not provide for the death penalty for rape. On the other hand, the Uniform Code of Military Justice does provide for that.

jvalmer: That slur is not becoming less offensive. It does appear, though, to be more popular with a certain segment of society.

Tony_Baloney: Where is the race of the accused mentioned?

CentralCali:

I was not aware of one of the two articles. They are good and cite eternal truths. That said, there are limitations and the author makes this clear. Here is a short excerpt from the article:

"For example, Latter-day Saints, though they are required to forgive all men (D&C 64:10), cannot accept and tolerate the gross evils that are so prevalent in societies today.

[cannot accept and tolerate the gross evils . . . In my opinion Japanese ethnocentrism is one of those "gross evils".]

We hear often of the need for people to be tolerant of differences they observe in others. We agree insofar as tolerance implies genuine respect for another, but we disagree if tolerance connotes acceptance of sins which God Himself rejects. For I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance (D&C 1:31). Tolerance also does not imply a begrudging, mean-spirited, putting up with the other fellow just because we cant demand and require him to change.

The best result would be to try the Marine under the Uniform Code of Military Justice and execute if he is found guilty.

Is that your typical sniveling liberal response with no answer?

I'm just asking. I couldn't care less what people call me or anyone else...I'm just wondering why, exactly, Jap is offensive.

Can you answer that, jackass?

I see my experiment worked. It's perfectly clear that you DO care what people call you. You are sensitive to being called a negative word, in this case 'dense'. Why then is it so difficult for you to get that other people interpret certain words as negative?

Why do you deny to other people the right to be offended by certain words that you claim for yourself?

Your experiment? Good god, you are arrogant. Much to do about absolutely nothing, you.

Anyway, so people are able to determine for themselves what words are offensive to their ears and DEMAND others stop using those words?? Wow, that's powerful. I DEMAND that all you liberals stop referring to W. as a moron because it offends me. Y'all will stop now, right?

Ya-ta, for a guy that claims to be older than the average bear around here, you sure do spew a lot of hippy dippy crap that most of us got over when we left university and joined the real world. Experiments and the "right" to be offended? Two words: GROW UP.

contrarian: So your response to one of the gross evils of society is to participate in that same gross evil? I'm quite certain that is not what the author meant.

Read the pm I sent you.

It is their evil, not mine. My reaction may be harsh . . .

Aha! So, you were a hippy at college? I beg you to regale us with your hippy college stories.

Meanwhile, racial slurs were distinctively absent from my college education.

Let us test the swear filter:

spic
wop
nigger
spade
dego (sp?)
kraut
frog
chink
nip
gook
honkey
cracker

Wannago, can you explain why we shouldn't use any of these terms?

Does it need to be explained to you?

Complaining about Jap not being an acceptable term is like complaining that any of the above are not acceptable terms.

Complaining that you want to use the word Jap as short for Japanese is like complaining that you want to use the word Spic to refer to Hispanics.

To make it out of college and not understand that makes you "special".

Now, stop it you spec.

Why not add Yank, Kiwi, Canuck, Aussie, Pom, Brit?

OK. Fine.

Yank
Pommy
Limey
Cockney
Aussie
Brit
Kiwi
Buckeye
Hawkeye
Sooner
Hoosier
Canuck
ABC
Gyopo
Farang
Wae-Gook

Now bear with me. Some of these names are based on something.

Perhaps most offensive of the list is Pom, which is supposedly based on prisoners having "Prisoner of her Majesty" stamped in shirts while being shipped there. I don't know any "Aussies" who find this offensive. If they do, it should be on the first list.

Once upon a time, there was an American movie called "Yanks".

To date, there hasn't been a movie called "N!ggers".

If you have to ask me why, then stop here, go hang with Wango, and wonder why Jap isn't acceptable.
