I don't have any info about the school you're headed to, but why didn't you research the school before you signed a contract to teach there?

Regarding Bundang, look in the general discussion forum for more information. There are threads about it popping up every week, and you can find more than enough information by using the search function.

Beware the last minute positions that you've just been offered. Chances are it could be really good, but the majority of the time it's the recruiters wanting to hurry you into a quick decision on a bad school so they get their cut.

Recruiters now are panicking a bit because with all the new regs can't hurry people as quick as they used to. From agreeing to landing Korea for me was 2 and a half weeks. Unless you have all the paperwork etc there's no way it can be done this quick anymore.

Post the contract on the posting thread further up the Jobs forum for people to check out.
Get contact with native teachers there. If they can't do this beware.

The research for finding a school takes a while and you'll ditch a lot of contracts thrown at you. EVen though you are looking to come out quickly with your boyfriend, take care and don't be rushed. It's a years commitment, make sure it's a good one.

To put it simply, the contract sucks!

First off, the contract is from March 18th-December 31st, which means your boss won't have to pay you about $2000 in severance (if you were to finish March 17th 2009).

Since you're not working there for one year, your boss won't have to buy you a plane ticket back home either (see article 4)

You only get one week of paid vacation per year, which is illegal. I think the law was recently changed to give you about 15 days per year.

You should have your working hours defined as well as what constitutes a teaching hour (40 minutes, 50 minutes, 1 hour?)

Why isn't there any mention of pension contributions? That's about $1000 a year if you and your boss aren't contributing. It's basically free money at the end of your contract, but your boss is probably hoping he won't have to pay into it.

Even if you don't have any teaching experience, you should NOT accept a salary of 2.0. I was making that more than three years ago when I was just starting out. Bundang is not a cheap place to live either. Since you'll probably be living in an officetel, you can expect to pay about 150,000won/month in utilities/building fees. You should be asking for 2.2 or 2.3/month.

"d. Out-of-classroom activities for/with students.
e. Grading and evaluation of students.
f. Student counseling or evaluation.
g. Attendance at teachers' meetings and workshops."

I would be VERY careful with these. How often and when are these out of classroom activities? Are you going on field trips? If it's within the work hours then it's no problem, but what if it's not? How much grading and evalution will you have to do? At my first hagwon I had to write about 30 report cards every month, which were EXTREMELY detailed. I was writing about 1 page, single spaced for each student. Needless to say it was very time consuming. I also took work home with me, grading student essays, speeches, etc. In addition, I made 3-6 page exams every month for each of my 6 classes, then I got to grade them all.

If you don't mind the possibility of all this work, then go ahead and sign. But if it were me and I were to sign this contract, I'd be asking for 2.6 or 2.7 to make up for the fact there is no pension, airfare, etc.
