As far as I understand it, the mayan calender doesn't end, anymore so your car ends when you roll the odometer. The calender just gets another 0. It's not the end of the world. Anyone claiming crap about solar cycles and the magnetic core is just talking pure crap. Phil Plait, like a real astronomer, is going to soon post the mother of debunkings of this crap. Watch this space:

But I somehow doubt you'll take the word of, you know, astronomers and real mayan scholars. You know. People who submit their claims to actual peer review and continued criticism by the scientific community. |

| CO2 may very well be heating up the earth, that is a distinct possibility; what is clear, and which in fact has been shown with the studies cited in the link, is that the sun has played the overwhelming role in the temperature on earth. And, if past trends and cycles continue, the role of the sun will indeed cool, not heat, the earth. If the sun stops sending down as much radiation, the earth will get colder. |
The greenhouse effect is simply reality. The Earths temperature in the absence of an atmospheric greenhouse effect would be about 33 degrees cooler than currently. More greenhouse gases tends to trap more heat, hence it's an issue.
Oh by the way, the extreme long term trend of the sun is for a steadily increasing energy output, until it shifts of the main sequence and goes nova. Not to worry about though, the earth will be inhabitable for another 100 million years or more. |

Silly human pride.
The Sun is much more powerful than the
mere misadventure of humankind. |
The sun also happens to be 150 million kilometers away. It's not the sun that's the issue here. It's our ecosystem on earth, though utterly reliant on the Sun, is also a very complex adaptive system that we're are currently conducting massive uncontrolled experiments on. |

STFU you douchebags!
Harpeau, I've told you 23 zillion times previously that global cooling never had scientific support (=)
I realize you TEFL in Korea types are constantly drunk, but please try to remember this from National Geographic |

There's no way EFL would join our evolution debate or any debate on my side. |

The above serves as a chilling reminder that one must avoid EFL at all costs. |
Fixed it for you. Now I'll go back to avoiding you. |

| I'm not sure what you mean, Conservative, because the use of "TEFL" in my witty retort was correct. However, you could be suggesting I'm some douchebag former poster's sock - someone called EFL? Jeez, what kind of boring ID is that? Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm very surprised to see thepeel plumb the depths of sock accusations, since you are definitely in the top 3 posters. That's the problem with this board; you totally debunk some bad science and you get accused of being some unemployable layabout's sock. Let's get back to the Sun, please. Who can refute me? |

Didn't say that. A sock and a person who changes names are not the same. |
