I just got KT a couple of weeks ago.

However, lately I've had trouble connecting to various sites. When I use explorer and opera, it says it can't find the server...Is that due to using KT as my internet provider?

What companies do you guys use - in Seoul, and how's the connection?

Thanks

I use Thrunet and have the same problem now and then. From time to time, even CNN is blocked. If you type the address into this website, it usually goes through though: www.anonymizer.com . That's what I do.

What REALLY bugs me however, is that I also have some kind of adware on my computer from Dream-something or somesuch-- although it could be my internet company doing this too. When I type in a website, on random times it directs me to a Korean search engine and provides me with a list of Korean sites that are similar. I have to hit reload and try again to get to the site I want. The search engine isn't very flashy either so this isn't a clear advertisement for anyone. It looks like a normal Korean "page not found" return.

Ok... this might be your answer:

Sometimes certain companies or servers will block Korean companies em-masse, due to idiots in Korea (or people elsewhere routing thru Korean computers). These idiots are often hacking, sending junk, trying to bring down a site, etc.

Chances are that someone from Korea got pissed about CNN airing some story about SK, and they decided to "get even" by doing something to the CNN site by computer -- sending excessive junkmail in anger, sending multiple-hits so the site will be overwhelmed, etc...

So to solve the problem, CNN (or other companies) just cut off the connection and don't accept anything from a KT ip address.

And about the guy who has the problem with the ads from a Korean site: Try downloading "AdAware" at www.downloads.com.

This might clear up your problem. Then again, the Korean company might have pissed with your internet explorer, and you'd have to reload it from Windows disks to make it right again.

Another thing that gripes me is that many korean email companies will block hotmail stuff for similar reasons. So my hotmail stuff bounces back to me, instead of going to my Korean friends' accounts.

I think many of us are using the same gateways and DNS servers. For the last two weeks I've been having the same problem accessing certain sites (the problem comes and goes), but if I use a proxy they'll (usually) work for me.
Glad it's not just me.

You are marking them and deleting them, right? A lot of them are just cookies, but many are "data miner" cookies, which track your clicks and send you junk mail.

That was after installing Adaware last night, so yeah, I deleted them all. From the looks of it, most were those "data miner" ones that you mentioned.

Ugh... I feel so... used. Shocked

I'm using a smaller company called DongYong telecom. I haven't had any problems and my connection is like lightening.

I heard KT was arse before coming here, so I tried to get Hanaro or ThruNet. Hanaro wasn't avalable, so I got ThruNet. Very fast. Was getting ads as "system message" pop-ups for several months, but they seem to have disappeared.

We use KT at work, and it's absolute garbage.
