I couldn't find anything about this in the korean labor standards act, but I'm pretty sure this is illegal.
My school is remodeling right now, and still holding classes. Not only are there dangerous tools and machines lying around and being used in all of the hallways and in the lobby, but the air is filled with sawdust and paint fumes.
My boss in all of his klogic, decided it's a good idea to still hold classes. The noise is bad, but I can deal with it. I do however have a large problem with sitting in a tiny classroom for 8 hours with no ventilation and paint fumes.
Is this covered in Korean labor laws??? |

Phone the police and ask them to visit the school. If that is of no use contact the Ministry of Education as the school requires approval for any remodeling or construction work being done as this is in their remit.
You could go to the doctors and say that you are suffering from sleepless nights, stress and anxiety. Then show the doctor the some photos of the school and the environment that you have to work in. Claim that the school's environment is to blame and then get a sick note with that info on it. Take 5 days off and claim that due to the school's environment you need to take paid medical leave until the work is complete. This is the Korean Labor Standards Act:
Article 81 (Medical Treatment Compensation)
(1) An employer shall provide necessary medical treatment at his own expense or bear corresponding expenses for a worker who suffers from an occupational injury or disease.
(2) The scope of occupational disease or medical treatment referred to in paragraph (1) shall be determined by the Presidential Decree.
...
Article 30 (Restriction on Dismissal, etc.)
(1) An employer shall not dismiss, lay off, suspend, transfer a worker, or reduce wages, or take other punitive measures against a worker without justifiable reason.
(2) An employer shall not dismiss any worker during a period of temporary interruption of work for medical treatment of an occupational injury or disease and within 30 days thereafter; nor shall any female worker before and after childbirth be dismissed during a period of temporary interruption of work as provided herein and within 30 days thereafter; however, if an employer has paid the lump sum compensation due under Article 87 hereof or is not able to continue his business, this shall not apply. <Amended by Act No. 5885, Feb. 8, 1999> |

Do watch out for your health and take the necessary corrective action. Unprotected exposure to some noxious industrial fumes can cause permanent damage that can make you wish you hadn't just grinned and beared it. N'est pas? |

Or unplug your refrigerator before going to bed. That's what I have to do. I'm in one of those one-room teachers' apartments. |

Very funny, but this situation is beyond a minor inconvenience. It's not merely annoying, it's unhealthy and dangerous. I have to squeeze by a guy with a buzz saw and under a ladder to get into my class which is 1 meter by 1.5 meters, no window, and a guy painting the walls.(today they were doing the trimming, tomorrow the walls). |

Your classroom is 1 x 1.5 metres? Is it a Tardis? |

Nah, it's more of an office, although it's probably more like 2meters by 1.5. I primarily teach one on one conversation, so, there's a desk and two chairs. Nice Doctor Who reference btw. |
