Has anyone else heard that there will be not be a GEPIK orientation?
I'm wondering if I was told the right information or not... |

although my orientation (not GEPIK) was useless and i'm sure it's the same with this program, the one important thing this allows the foreign teachers to do is network with the others in their area.
IMO it's a bad move if the board decides not to have one this year. native teachers that are able to network, make friends, are usually happier and therefore more likely to complete their contracts. |

After going to the Everland bash I am sure that the most of the GEPIK teachers are part of some twisted government gene pool manipulating experiment. |

I was told there was no orientation to attend. Doesn't GEPIK have other meetings or events for teachers to attend through out the year? |

I don't think so. We did have a one day workshop at Everland this year. So, who knows...we might. The GEPIK orientation may be a good way to network, but that's about it. I started the same time my friends did but strangely my school didn't tell me anything about the orientation so I didn't get to go. I didn't miss anything.
Your local office of education might sponsor "English cafes" and you will get to network with all the native speakers around your area. It's not bad. I like it because you get to miss class once a month, learn a bit about Korean culture, and get a dinner |

I have signed a contract with GEPIK and with the visa issuance number they sent me a letter no information about the orientation but the letter signs off We look forward to having you at the upcoming March/April 2008 orientation. |

I'm still on hold for my visa insurance number, immi said my transcript was "missing the last semester" so I had to send a new one. When did you get your visa number? |

I think it took about 10 business days for my recruiter to get my visa number (around end of January) after she submitted the documents to immi, then my recruiter sent me everything which took about 3 days, then it took me 4 days to get the visa (and I dont even live in a city where theres a consulate, they required no interview, I was under the impression from reading the embassy website (in Australia) that only hagwon workers need to be interviewed but that could be different in Texas) |

Those are voluntary and most schools ignore the notices. Orientation is mandatory as was the Everland misadvanture." |
