| Thanks...I have taken the old hard drive and placed it in an external case...can I access this from another computer or will a virus transfer if I plug it in? |
You should be able to access it from another computer.
Just make sure that the other computer has a good anti-virus program running BEFORE you plug it in. You can transfer your data or up load it to the web and then do a scan and clean your old HDD.
It may be recoverable.
Use the recovery disks to format and reinstall windows onto your other drive (the one that is in your laptop now). |

Crazy arcade
"Launch windows setup from your cd. Press R to go into recover console.
Once in recovery console type chkdsk /p and it'll check for problems. If it is the boot sector then you can type fixboot to fix it. If that doesn't work then
go into recovery console again and this time use chkdsk /r "
I put the old drive back in laptop.
I entered windows setup. on CD.
I typed r for recovery.
It then said:
"1:c:/minint
which windows installation would you like to log onto"
I pressed 1 as nothing else worked.
It then said:
"c:/minint>"
I typed chkdsk/p but it says not valid command.
I typed CHKDSK
It then said
"volume appears to be in good condition but was not checked type /p to check"
I try this but it says invalid command
hmm?
any advice |

I got it to work....nothing seems to be wrong
did CHKDSK /P and CHKDSK /R
so not sure now what to do.
If I put it in case will I be able to access the files using another computer without passing on a virus? |

I sent you a pm a few days ago but it's still in my outbox.
Did you get it fixed? |

The-beaver I just pm'd you.
Thanks everyone for the offers of help.
Really appreciated, I mean that.
Nothing worse than getting frustrated with a computer I don't know how to fix!! |
