Are you saying you expect extra pay above and beyond your regular salary for working the camps? If so, I doubt you should get it. You're just doing your job. If they're not planning to pay you at all, then you're getting the shaft.

Did they say they would pay you extra before you started the camp? Is it in your contract that you have to 'participate in winter camps at the principals request'? Is it in the contract that you can turn down these extra classes?
Seems strange that the winter camps that my friends have done for PS, the extra money offered has been ironed out before they start, so there's no misunderstanding. Either it's a flat fee or amount for each class taught.
Getting paid or forced to do winter/summer camps varies from province/city. Some principals construe that their native teachers should work extra and not get paid. Some pay their native teacher extra. It really depends.
Maybe they're just bending the contract a little. You could say that if you were able to turn down extra classes, you would have done so because they were unpaid. That said, I hope you find an amicable outcome to this. |

Hmm. I know what you mean, but I keep hearing that other teachers actually got something extra for their winter camp. Are they just liars? Not looking for extra pay. I am only trying to find out if they are full of *beep* or not. |
I don't get extra pay for camps. I was told it's because the students don't have to pay to come. It's true because I teach in a poor area, and attendance varies day to day.
I think if the students are paying to attend, you should be getting something, but the school would still be within their rights to only pay your regular salary if your contract mentions camps but no extra pay.
Those hours sound lousy--there are better schools out there! |

States in your contract that you can be asked to work without additional pay during those times of the year.
It's not so much your school screwing you but....well yeah they sorta are. I did a camp in my school last year and only got paid a tiny bit extra for it. Different school this year and it's a bit better all in all.
Try to change schools next year! =) |

I'd quit, and tell them why. I'd also tell the main office to change the contract. My school doesn't follow the contract, as in I get paid for extra work, therefore I still work at my school. They like me, and I like them. Everyone is happy. |

You are not getting screwed. Almost all teachers do a camp of some sort to make up hours you are not working during vacation. If you weren't doing the camps you would be sitting in an office doing nothing for 8 hours a day except for your vacation week.
As a native teacher we don't work Saturdays so they expect us to come in and work during the holidays. Those whe get extra pay are as stated before in schools most likely middle schools or high schools were students pay to come to camp. |

don't worry, you're not getting screwed. the school considers the camps (20 hrs a week) to just be class and it's in your contract.
however, with that being said, they are not being nice to you at all. 4 weeks of camp in january?? i only did one week and my friends do anywhere from 1-3 weeks of camp, with the 3 weekers getting a little something extra
switch schools next year, there are schools out there who will treat u better |

Instead, he made me feel that I wasnt really welcomed and told me that if I didnt like anything on the contract, then to consider another school. |
He's right. Go teach in your home country. Dae Han Min Gook!
Seriously, they need to fix their contracts big time if they want to attract and keep teachers. |

I have worked for EPIK for almost 3 years. I have never been paid for camps (except overnight stays). Many of teachers in other provinces and cities did get paid. That's the thing about EPIK, it is not standardized. You may feel cheated, but it is in your contract. Really, my supervisor doesn't want the EPIK teachers in my city to do a spring camp, but the Provincial office of Ed told him we have to. So we are stuck working 4 hours every morning right up till the 29th. We will not be paid extra. |

You may be entitled to travel expenses(if working at another school) which would probably be around 20,000 a day(even if you just pocket it and walk to the school). Try getting that. You be paid expense for all business trips also. |
