In a year, somebody will discover that while 2 glasses alone elevate the heart rate, up to 2.5 glasses taken with food have a beneficial effect. Also, bleu cheese will modify the effects due to a hitherto unsuspected chemicals, whereas blonde cheese eaten in combination with tomoatos is bad for you.

This kind fo stuff is worth ignoring. Enjoyable things people have been doing for years, taken in moderation, are mostly harmless.

The research is always contradicting itself because people with nothing to say have to say something in order for the tenure system to work. So there is a lot of noise in the system.

Yeah I heard the 2 glasses o' booze are good for you again on the radio this morning and could only think "When are they going to quit that stupid research" Didn't this come out in the 80s? Then again how does one become a test subject? And are free beers involved?

Does the portion size change if you are larger? Or smaller? If you are 300 pounds, clearly 1 glass of wine has less (positive & negative) effects that it would have on a 90 pound woman.

Dunno, sounds like crap "old wive's tale" science to me.

I say enjoy life while you can. If you like drinking forget that stuff. Better to have fun and die a bit sooner...

Hey,

I know...these new 'findings' are really annoying and contradictory. For example, research had indicated that green tea may help prevent cancer (especially skin cancer) and had a lot of beneficial qualities. Then, more research comes out and says that it's good for the heart but doesn't do anything to prevent cancer. Yet again, I read from one of these researchers that you should only drink green tea at room temperature because drinking it while it's hot may lead to esophageal cancer! WTF??

I'm not a health nut but I do like to read up on the subject. It just seems that for every study that is done there's another one to contradict its findings.

So, at the moment the only 'extra' things I do for my health are to:

1) Take an omega 3 supplement daily.

2) Take a multi-vitamin daily.

3) Drink green or white tea daily.

4) Try to drink enough water daily.

I'm still working on getting enough fruits/veggies. This is probably the most important.

It's not an either/or. My 78-year-old father has made a lifetime of drinking two or three entire big bottles of whiskey on the weekends. Oh, and has been a chain smoker since 1942 (no filters either). Perhaps he's exceptional, but maybe not so much. The difference could be that he has always worked hard physically, never sits in front of the t.v. or computer, doesn't get stressed out by anything, laughs a lot.

I surmise that those who drink only a glass of wine a day are mostly those who know how to relax in the evenings and not get stressed out. And I bet there are other habits strongly correlated with one glass a day wine drinkers regarding exercise or diet.

There are several environmental, habitual and genetic factors that are hard to isolate. The vaulted Medditeranean Diet is an example.

Good advice: look at what illnesses traditionally affect YOUR family, and take steps to try and prevent those conditions.

Exactly. People who wear velvet and silk tend to live longer too.

Although regarding vitamins, most north americans get their RDA in their diet. There's zero evidence more than the RDA or regular supplementation has any effect. Vitamins are not cheap. Save your money on vitamins and put it towards a gym membership.

I hope to go to Korea to teach soon, and would like to know about the various accents, especially North American English. Is the accent I heard on the video the 'standard accent' of schools in Korea?
