Do any other Me-gooks know if we are eligible to recieve the rebate check that were just signed into law today. I read you have to earn at least 3000 dollars to recieve them. I did, but I wonder if incomed earned abroad doesn't count. Anybody know?

Why would you want the money? This whole "stimulus package" is just a bad idea. The US need to save money not borrow a bunch more just so Americans can spend a few bucks. At the end of the day the Govt' is just perpetuating an already bad situation.

To answer your question. If you did not earn any money in the US than you do not qualify for a "special refund".

I'm going to get that money and be happy with it! Just like every welfare frucking sheep with 3 kids that will get more because they like to freely have unprotected sex with multiple partners rather than work. I'm not going to spend it like they want us to either. It's going straight to my bank account to rest.

I think it would depend on how long you have been out of the country.

You would need to have some info faxed to you in regards to your income to prove that you actually earned it.

Lastly, I think you would have to be currently residing in the U.S. to benefit from it.

I think that for an expatriot like yourself, there would be a lot of red tape that I think just wouldn't be worth it. I would let the money go to someone who really needs it, like a single mother with three kids.

On the contrary, I agree with the previous poster. This is a bad idea. People shouldn't be signing their names on the line at a bank thinking they are having money handed to them so they can own a house they can not afford in the long run..

Economic Stimulus? Sounds like a sketch to me.

It's free money, so why not take it? No one else will get it if you decline. Just as long as the red tape procedure (if there is a possible procedure) takes less time than the money is worth.

As a Canadian, though, I know that if my government were doing something similar, I would not get it unless I was paying Canadian tax, which is nothing I want to do.

Someone will eventually get it if you decline.

If you really want it, go for it. Contact the IRS division back where you came from and they'll tell you how you can have it. I just don't see it being likely that they would give a szheijt about someone living outside of the States for that long, but you never know. I think it would really depend on how long you have been living in Korea and earning money here.

Do you use an address in the US?

I should think that you need to file on time, not use the automatic extension you can get as a taxpayer abroad. The last time something like this passed (2001?), I didn't file until August or so, after everyone had already gotten their checks.

Unless you work for an American company or have American taxes taken out of your paycheck (for one reason or another), it would be unlikely a person working overseas will see any type of American rebate....

Unless, of course, you just arrived in Korea and you did work all the way up until you went to Korea and as long as you worked for one whole quarter of the Tax Year.......

Keep in mind that if a person works overseas (and makes under $70,000-$85,000 a years) and/or pays foreign income tax, the person is exempt from paying American income tax.....
