Weird. Truth be told, the notary probably screwed up. But if the Department of State granted the apostille, it's all goodno harm, no foul! All KImmi cares about is the big shiny seal. |

It might be good for you to check with the West Virginia Secretary of State. While I was able to get a background check with the local sheriff's office, I had looked into getting an FBI records check. I had e-mailed the West Virginia Secretary of State's office and they e-mailed me back that if I send them the document, they can certify it and apostille it. The cost is $10.
The reason for going through West Virginia is that the FBI's fingerprint criminal background records unit is in West Virginia. The website is http://www.wvsos.com.
Here's the relevant passage from the e-mail I received:
You will send me the fingerprint card and I will notarize and aposille the document. Please include a cover letter stating which country the document is going to and contact information for you. The fee for the apostille is $10 for the first and $5 for each additional document. If you have any other questions please contact me at 304-558-8000 or via email. |

Do you get your finger prints back after you get the FBI CRC done? So I have to send everything, including the fingerprints, to W.Virginia... to get an apostille?
Wow... this is going to take forever. |

| Sorry if this has been covered before, but do we need a federal background check, or will a state one suffice? |

State is sufficient. I got my E-2 (issuance number 2/5/08, visa issued in Chicago 2/13/08) with a state check. |

| I sent my FBI CRC to the U.S. Dept. of State to get apostilled about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am still waiting to get it back. The wait seems like forever. I am very confused about what is true and false about this process. I'll update when i get my CRC back |

I hope for your sake they're wrong, but I've got a pair of Sejongs that say State won't grant one. |

Bump
I'm starting this process with the FBI check now.
From this thread, it appears that the apostille is
attained by sending the "No Record" stamped
fingerprint form to the W.Virginia Secretary of State.
Has anyone successfully leaped through this hoop recently from Korea? |
