Not sure if you noticed it, but this is national Kimchi making weekend - not a real holiday, but this is the most common time of the year to make it. You may have spotted trucks toting tons of cabbage. I got a huge container of fresh kimchi from one of my adult students tonight. Tomorrow 2 teachers and my boss are supposed to give me more. Yay!

I have seen the trucks. I always ask my students if they can make Kimchi and very few can. Even older ajumha students say they have their mother or mother-in-law make it. It seems like the skills are slowly getting lost. I usually by the pre-packaged super market stuff. It is good, and doesn't have that fish paste thingy taste to it. Good Kimchi rocks. |

Yes, tis the season to augment that fine Korean cuisine, which for some reason has not caught on, well, anywhere else on the planet. Foul-smelling fermented cabbage just doesn't work for me. In western countries, we feed that to the cattle and then eat them. If you want a spicy, veggie-based snack, go for the Thai Som-Tam; made fresh every day, and it will make your eyes water. Korean food sucks. There, I've said it. |

i'll have to disagree. korean food is some of the most eccentric and interesting food that i've ever had, and kimchee grew on me and i developed a taste for it. i don't care much for the really sour lower quality stuff that you get at the kimbap places, but love the fresher stuff you get at places like sam kya tang restaurants. i like a lot of the other types of kimchee as well (green onion, cucumber, bean sprouts) and side dishes like the pajang, omeletes, etc. etc. etc. |

Hahah, feel free to answer in the other regard as well
Yeah, this fresh Kimchi is a little pastey, not fishy, just the red sauce is thick. I think it will taste better next week. Then a few weeks later I'll make Kimchi chigae.
I usually buy the packaged kind as well. It tastes perfect to me. I get "poki" kimchi, but I forgot the name of the company. Also, "Mat" kimchi is good too. |

You would have to put a gun to my head to get me to eat that foul smelling, bitter wannabe food. |

Unless you were being facetious in which case I apologize for rolling my eyes at you. |

It IS lazy, you're right and I'm ashamed. However, time is in short supply these days and I'm not above using shortcuts. So sue me. |
