I've been finding a lot of good books as eBooks lately but hate to stick my nose in a computer any more hours a day then I already do. I want to find an eBook reader that is of reasonable size, like a paperback book to an A4, not a pocket size deal.

Any suggestions? It's got to be able to read PDFs also.

There aren't a lot of options. Sony has an e-book reader, Amazon has the Kindle, and what I use is my jailbroken ipod Touch. There are pros and cons to each, I suppose.

I want that too. I usually convert everthing to text and read it on my nintendo DS. It works but it is not comfortable.

Yeah... it seems weird there isn't one.

Something like a graphics tablet in dimensions with a display as good as a PSP. It would rock hardcore IMHO.

People on Amazon absolutely slammed the Kindle when it first went up. Hundreds of people -- so much so that it only had a 1 star rating for the longest time. Virtually everyone said, "Gawd, this is far too expensive!"

Amazon had to go through the comments and purge virtually everything that was negative in order to get its little overpriced electronic baby above 3 stars.

Got to remember as well there is a difference between an ebook file and a PDF.

Most ebook readers won't show a PDF very well if it has graphics in it.

ebooks come in many shapes, sizes, and file types. Some come in PDF with graphics and audio support as well.

Hiebook - KML - For the newest eBook reader available. This unit is manufactured in Korea and there is limited distribution in the US and Canada

Just use a pda. there are reader programs for both palm and ppc models (even a pdf reader if you have good eyes and patience).

If you want ebooks for free, get mirc and log on to the undernet servers.

join channel #bookz

follow the directions for searching and downloading.

maybe 100,000 titles for downloading in many different categories.

So what's a good PDA? They're all fairly small aren't they?

I've got a PSP I think maybe I'll export a comic to jpg and see how it looks. It might be easier. I'd still rather have a bigger screen though.

You could try a UMPC.

I have an Everun and I had a Vega. You get full video/mp3/Internet and older 2D games as a bonus. I use mine for reading pdf files downloaded from the Internet or when I study. It's good for that.

Then there's also the Kohjinsha's:

And others.

If you really want the full contrast of paper then you'd need to go for one of the e-Ink ones. (e.g. Sony.) But the technology isn't quite mature yet. (I first read about it in New Scientist back in 2000.) It's been a while developing.

this site looks interesting but confusing to use.

Also, I found the list of channels but could not see #bookz. Where would I be able to find it?

Put custom firmware on your PSP then download Bookr. That is what I use and it is pretty good. TXT files are absolutely perfect and PDFs are about 75% readable. Pictures come out well. I have an economics text book on there and all the graphs and tables come out fine.

If you already have the PSP why buy something else? There is another program that converts TXT files to JPG which I used before I got the custom firmware. I can't remember it's name though.
