I went to Bangkok alone in 2000. It's not that big a deal to go alone as a woman. You'll be fine. I stayed at the Intercontinental which was right across the street from shopping areas, etc. I signed up for a day trip in the hotel lobby to go to Kanchanaburi for the day. I had fun! |

I went alone in December, but only for a few days on my way to India.
No problems, and things felt really safe. I stayed at Suk 11 in Bangkok (hostel). |

I was in August 2006. No problems. I stayed at Asha's Gueshouse in Bangkok and Casa Brazil (?) in Phuket. |

I did Bangkok, Koh Tao and Koh Samui alone in August of 2007 and had no problems at all. So long as you carry your wits about you, you'll be fine. Follow common sense safety tips, as you would in any country, and you won't have a problem. |

^ by the way, what sort of shots did you get?
i'm also planning on seeing the monkeys in lop buri, so i don't know if i should get a rabies shot as well.... i've had contact with semi-wild monkeys before and was ok (never bitten or scratched badly), but since i'll be travelling alone, i'm a bit more worried about it |
