I sometimes have the strong urge to eat some American style Chinese food. I want tons of Sweet and sour chicken balls with lots of goop on them. And the Wonton soup that has just one small Mandoo. Then a nice jumbo Egg roll with plum souce all over it. I used to love Mr. Pongs in Toronto he must have had the biggest egg roll I've seen.

HAHAHA,

Really, tell me when you find one.

At least Mexican restaurants EXIST here, albeit in tiny numbers.

Whenever I have asked my Korean friends and associates about THAT one, however, I get blank stares. And then after I explain what is involved with those type of restaurants, I get the baffled "never heard of it" nod.

Really, good luck.

Ho Lee Chow is the most Americanized Chinese food I think you'll find. The two I know of are in Bundang (Jeongja) and Itaewon (in the Hamilton Hotel), but I assume there are more. I don't believe they have a buffet, and the food is on the pricey side. A nice dinner for two there (with a bottle of wine) ran me 100k, but it can be done cheaper if you just want to try one dish. We had a few and shared.

Yongsan Garrison has one Chinese food place in their food court, a couple places down from their Taco Bell. I got some army friends to let me in once and it was worth it.

Go to the IMperial Palace Seoul Hotel.

Go down one level to the Buffet.

http://www.imperialpalace.co.kr/eng/restaurants/buffet/familia.asp

It is amazing. A bit pricey i think, but the best meal i ever had in my life. They have some american style chinese very well done in a high class way.

The most amazing and widest selection of food. If you have ONE meal or are taking your loved one on that one special occasion, THIS IS THE PLACE!

Indeed, my friend. Indeed. In Seoul, you can always count on hotels to have the food that makes you moist.

Not at all. The place is pretty much packed all the time. Used to be called the Amiga hotel, recently renovated about a year ago. I don't recall, but it might have been about 66,000Won per person.

I'm probably the most negative about Korean food, but this place just blew me away.

It is supposed to be a very cheesy and mobbed up place. Do you like Yakuza and Korean gangsters sitting in the same room as you?

There is another one right by Hakdong intersection in Apgujeong-dong.

On another note, I went to Ho Lee Chow when they had just one store back in the 1990s. The style is more CANADIAN rather than American because they didn't put the crackers in the hot and sour soup. I talked to the two Korean-Canadian owners about the food, and they told me they'd changed the flavors so many times to cater to customers.

Did they have ginger beef?

Geez, don't let your oversensitized paranoia prevent you from getting out in this world. There were many kids and familes there. But even if there are Yakuza and gangsters there, they're there for only one reason, the awesome food!

I was there with 4 other foreigners from Australia and the US, don't worry, we were virtually ignored.
