Warner Bros. to Build $4 Bil. Theme Park in Korea
Warner Bros., a major American movie studio, has decided to invest US$4 billion to build a theme park in the Misari area of Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, a key member of the presidential Transition Committee said on Thursday.
This committee member said that Warner Bros. chairman Barry M. Meyer and executive vice president John Schulman are expected to attend the inauguration ceremony of president-elect Lee Myung-bak on Feb. 25.
The executives are visiting Seoul to sign a letter of intent to build the Warner Bros. Theme Park on a 3.63 million sq.m lot in Misari, the committee member said.
They are expected to sign the letter of intent for a $4 billion investment around Feb. 26 or 27 after consulting with the Gyeonggi provincial government, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Warner Bros. joins several other developers with plans to build theme parks in locations around the Seoul metropolitan area over the next few years.
Universal Studios, another major American movie company, signed a memorandum of understanding late last year to build a giant theme park in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province for W2.9 trillion (US$1=W945) by 2012.
Paramount Pictures signed a contract to build a movie theme park in Songdo International City in Incheon with a view to opening in 2010.
When president-elect Lee was mayor of Seoul, the Walt Disney Co. looked into building an amusement park on the site of Seoul Land or Seoul Grand Park in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province. That plan is still pending due to a legal battle over the land lease.

It's only a "Letter of Intent". Letters of Intent are a dime a dozen here in Korea, hell fly me to Korea for free and in first class and I'll also sign one as well.
Actually I am signing one next month, it's for a 5 billion dollar project on Dokdo. It's between my company TurdsRus and the Korean Government.
We'll be building the worlds largest turd theme park in the world.
Some of the rides will include; The blow hole, The crack slide, and The Pooh Shooter. The theme park is expected to put Dogdoo er I mean Dokdo on the map, and will attract 50 million tourists yearly.
Anyone else out there signing "Letters of Intent"? |

The difference being Roh would've said "F YOU!" and gotten a Korean company to try and open a theme park.
Lee would actually meet these guys and try to talk them into investing in Korea. |

And Everland would have gone to Roh and got him to pass a law putting up a roadblock. And Koreans would beam with pride how they once again defeated a foreign company on its own soil with their own home grown version. And Korean business men, politicians, and scientists would once again go abroad to international conferences and hang around in a corner lost and afraid waiting for the moment they can sneak away to their hotel room to make the instant noodles their wives thoughtfully packed in their suitcase. |
