Anyone else having problems with utorrent as of late? Mine is driving me crazy. It drastically slows down surfing even if only uploading / downloading a small amount. Anyone else having these issues? |

I used to have that issue when I was with a previous ISP. LG Xspeed. Internet crawled when torrents were running. Now I'm with Hanaro, no problem at all.
Another salient point here is that there is a big difference between your net connection depending on what kind of router/hub your building is using. 'Villa's' sometimes use a shared router. But sometimes you'll just get a cable direct in from their hub somewhere in the street or neighborhood.
Most high-rise apartments (less than 10 years old) use a fibre-optic system connected to a high-speed hub somewhere in the apartment complex.
The result? Connections in Villa's can often suck. Connections in high-rises are usually great.
This has been my experience. Your mileage may differ. |

Were you messing with your "half-open" connections in advanced preferences? I tried opening more before and it really screwed up my connection. I believe the default is 8. If I were you, I'd just try to hit "reset" in the advanced section. |

I havent changed my isp in 2 yrs.. i am using KT netopia, and in an officetel, so speed was never a problem. It seemed to have happened lately, when I upgraded utorrent. |

It's possible your ISP throttles torrents and you had encryption turned on before but don't know. Make sure it's enabled.
However, chances of that are fairly low. |

Any update on this SK?
I just dual booted my home computer (have been using linux for the last couple of months) and noticed when I switched to Windows that utorrent would make my internet surfing absolutely crawl. Which is a bit nuts considering it's a massive pipe I've got here. Anyway, one thing you might consider is installing a program called cfosspeed,. It might help.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. If it is upload connections, etc., I have read that it is actually good to increase that from 8, even up to say 50. Works fine for me.
What I am wondering about is this issue of having a central router in the apartment. Every now and then I notice flow crashes for a few seconds. Kinda like water flow when someone flushes the toilet. I gather that somehow other usage can affect your data rate. Is that so?
But I am most curious about IP addresses. If the apartment uses a single router - or do they sometimes have one router per floor? - does everyone have a single IP address? If so, this would me it would be very difficult to trace any particular internet usage to a particular customer. Anyone know how it works?
But in general, if I had some unexplained slowdown in my computer, the first thing I would do is a scan for viruses and spyware.
I've noticed the computers at work are chronically infected -- apparently the Korean antivirus programs used on the school machines do not catch some stuff. And when I use a flash memory card on them, an infection warning shows up on my home machine. So scan every time first when you bring files home. |

I'm not particularly up on the lingo. But whenever I use utorrent it seems to affect my internet, by making me lose connection. If I download a couple of movies or some music during the day, my internet connection in the evening comes and goes, (mainly goes). Should this be? Will an internet connection allow a certain limit of data through? Last one probably a stupid question. If I don't use utorrent it's no problem. |

It seems to have worked out itself, I have changed a bunch of settings and removed it from my virus scanner (it doesnt even scan it now), and it appears things are going better.
ps. changing with half open really only matters if you patch your windows before hand and no I have not done that. |
