So I have:

Reckless driving misdemenor
Drinking in public misdemenor
An obstruction of justice..plead guilty, now dismissed after i did my probation and community service.

Can I get an e-2 again or am I SOL? Who can I call/write and get an answer? Are you guys tired of these e-2 questions already?

It seems to me that with those offences, you'd fit right into Korean society Smile

Seriously though, follow the other poster's idea of getting your record check from another state.

I know, right?

Thanks for the idea guys, i will look into going to another state for the check. I've only been a resident of one state, can i just go to another state and get all that stuff done? Is the loophole that big? That would be sweet.

i think thats what makes the whole thing ridiculous, i do think its that easy to sidestep. i think its a big deal because i doubt a school would hire you if they know about any crimes. the ones you mention dont fit into the e2 restrictions, so it technically shouldnt matter but a school probably wouldnt take you. youre not in direct violation of the e2 reqs so i dont see any problem. id be interested to know how it works out, definately feel free to PM me with whatever you find out.

Why would these charges affect your e2 status? Makes no sense at all.

Per the regulations (available at http://www.hikorea.go.kr):

Exceptions are made if the nature of the crime is light and does not affect their ability as a teacher

Move to Canada.

Get a tourist visa.

Come work here with no worry about E-2 visa restrictions for 6 months at a time.
