Now it's time for 'From Hell.' |
A movie is on its way I believe. |

Just finishing 'V for Vendetta' now.
The movie wasn't bad, but the book...wow.
Reminds me of being a kid and thinking the Santa Cruz Boardwalk was awesome, and then going to Disneyland and realizing the reality of the situation.
After going though From Hell, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and now V for Vendetta, this past couple weeks, it's sure easy to see why Alan Moore is so hateful about the movie adaptations of his stuff.
Hopefully the Watchmen will be better. I'm not optimistic though. It's by the guy who did '300;' all image, not much thought. That's not really an issue with Frank Miller adaptations, but with 'Watchmen,' rendering it down to 'plot' and 'picture' would be like lobotomizing a really beautiful and intelligent person. They'll still be beautiful, but the brain will be gone. |

Moore's been dismissive, but hopeful, about the "Watchmen" movie. I'm hopeful. You can't compare "300" to "Watchmen." Most of Miller's work is all picture and plot anyway, and for all the criticism the movie version of "300" was sweet.
And I thought "In Hell" was a reasonable adaptation. It probably never should have been made into a movie in the first place. There's no way to squeeze that voluminous tome into two hours. I wish someone at HBO or Showtime would get their crap together and license some of these comics as close ended shows. For awhile "Watchmen" was going to be a series with each chapter as an episode. I was much more excited by that possibility than a movie. Another great book to make into a show with a season or two is "Planetary," though its probably too laden with reference to work for anyone who isn't a comics' reader. |

Yeah, I liked '300' as well, and 'Sin City' was good too; Frank Miller's stuff seems to translate pretty well into Hollywood movie. Alan Moore, though, should be done in miniseries, on HBO, like you say.
I thought 'From Hell' was insanely bad, but maybe I just had a saggy baggy diaper that leaked, that day. I guess I'll risk the price of a free download and take another look. |

| I absolutely can not recommend Fables highly enough. Download it right now, all of the critical hype is completely deserved. It's the closest thing to Sandman that has been published since Sandman, and I honestly find the actual story to be far superior to Sandman. Every single issue will put a smile on your face and make you eager for the next. |

| My only complaint about "Fables" is that the Big Bad Wolf is just TOO Wolverine at times. Making his Dad the North Wind though is genius. |

| I read 'Y: the Last Man' for about a year when it first came out. I've just picked it back up and I can't believe I ever stopped. Apparently they're making a 'Y' movie, possibly starring Shia LeBouf. It could work. I have no idea who they'd get to play 355 though. Hopefully not some popstar. |

I just found this webcomic. It is brilliant. And my tenuous grasp of reality has allowed me to fall in love with one of the characters, Shelley Williams. Gotta love that red hair green eyes combo.

I stopped adding to my bronze-age collection about eight months ago which currently stands at 700+. I put some on display in A4 size picture frames mounted on the wall as the last word in wallpaper borders because I couldn't stand the flowery border already up on the wall. Comic art is outstanding.
After reading what you guys are saying, I'm gonna color copy.
I've lost some with the first appearance of the Punisher, Wolverine and others. I think the movers may have scuttled through the collection while loading my shipping container of household effects.
Anyway, I'm keeping my collection for my daughter's college fund which'll make these comics almost 50 years old by the time she goes to college(just in case her dad(me) and mom(always buys bs) @#$%up on IRAs and other investment stuff).
I find it interesting that even the big online comic sellers don't have a lot of bronze age on their database which probably goes to show how few there are in circulation.
Today, I'm buying a copy of the Overstreet Price guide.
Good luck in your collecting.
BTW: Iron Man comes out on the big screen soon so there may be a rise in the value of this title. |

As far as I know, there aren't any Mac comic-reading apps, are there?
Yeah, there are a few, actually. Search for "Jomic". That is what I used.
I also recently re-read Watchmen -- it still can't be beat: Moore pretty changed the way comics were thought about.
I also re-got into Spawn. It was good the first dozen issues or so, then I quit it, and then very recently I read they were going in a completely new direction, so I read some recent ones....not bad.
Overall, I don't read comic books much, though. |
